Showing Colleges Interest In Languages

Hey how do I show colleges I have an interest in languages. I am going to join the National French Honor Society and the National Spanish Honor Society, but i want to add more. I speak French, Spanish, and Farsi. Would maybe volunteering to teach kids these languages look good? Thanks

Yeah, teaching/volunteering in that area would be a good idea. Simply being in honor societies/taking AP exams isn’t enough to demonstrate clear interests. You could also found a school club related to languages if you’re up for that challenge.

You should investigate options at a local community college or something so you can take some linguistics classes, outside of school and take them for the next few years in high school. In addition, you can take a summer program or two on a language to gain a deeper understanding. Near the end of high school, I would take AP Tests for the languages you know, and maybe get some recommendations later from my community college professor. If you show you’re willing to take time out of your schedule to learn about languages, colleges will see this. And there aren’t that many linguists out there, so if you show you’re this dedicated, you’ll definitely stand out in the admissions process.
