I'm fairly certain I want to be a finance major in college, although I am considering economics as well. I am interested in business/economics, but I am struggling to find ways to show my interest. I plan on taking a summer course in economics as well as AP econ next year. I am also trying to find a business related internship. My guidance counselor is friends with a higher-up at GE Capital, so there's a chance I will be interning there this summer, but I doubt that will happen. Since I can't write down "I read the economist and the wall street journal" as an extra curricular on my college apps, I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions about what I can do to show my interest? My school doesn't have FBLA/DECA so I can't join those. Thanks.

Start your own.

Most colleges know that HS grads won’t have internships related to finance, business. My son did not have a clue what he wanted to do but thought a finance degree will be flexible. He couldn’t show any business, finance related ECs in his application and he was accepted at Wharton. However, he was a strong candidate with his grades, SATs, leadership roles.

Hmm, I guess that’s alright then. My scores and ECs are not problems, my grades are surely on the lower side for Wharton though (although I’m a legacy at Penn). I guess I can find other ways to spend my time.

VITA… look into it. It’s not exactly finance, but it’s easy to do and not a bad EC

doesn’t cost anything and it looks good on a resume even AFTER HS when you’re applying to things upon college graduation(and during college)
