Hi, I am a current junior in high school and plan to apply ED to Penn next Fall. I do have an uncle that attended Wharton. I've read about many people saying that it is absolutely key to show interest in Penn, especially during the ED round. Are there any tips on how to do this besides genuinely showing interest in the supplement?

applying ED IS the best way of showing great interest!

I think you’re mistaken about that, mamba.

There are schools that track and consider applicants’ demonstrated interest, but I don’t think Penn is one of them. According to Penn’s Common Data Set for 2009-10, an applicant’s interest is not considered in admissions decisions. (http://www.upenn.edu/ir/Common%20Data%20Set/UPenn%20Common%20Data%20Set%202009-10.pdf; see p. 10 of the .pdf file, which is p. 8 of the document it contains.)

And, honestly, at a college as selective as Penn, I think they can safely assume you’re very interested–especially if you’re applying ED. After all, it’s Penn.

I recommend looking through penn’s website and actually seeing what interests you. This helps greatly in your “Why Penn?” essay. Talk about certain classes or professors that seem particularly appealing. Or perhaps a club of volunteer organization.

I stand by everything I said about interest above, but I also totally agree with TOST’s advice about your “Why Penn?” essay.
