Rice is without a doubt my favorite school and #1 Choice. However, I am not sure how I can show interest. I would love to visit but I can't convince my parents to pay for a trip to Houston when there is a large chance that I wont get in. How else can I show interest? How does Rice track it?

I don’t think they track it, my son didn’t visit or show any interest and he got in with a scholarship.

It is tracked - it is just not required to get in. It may provide a small boost to your application (they would be more likely to admit someone they expect to attend over; stats being equal)

What can I do to show interest? That small boost may be all I need.

Schedule an alumni interview.

What kind of scholarship did your son get? Need based or merit?

Need based FA is also inclusive of merit scholarships.

FA based on Fafsa? I mean I know need based recipients can also receive merit but not the other way around:( lol

FA - based on “institutional method” (aka FAFSA AND CSS Profile)… whatever Rice’s determination is of your need.
