University of Chicago has a FORTY PERCENT acceptance rate.

that is ridiculous; a school that is so easy to get into has no business being prestigious, though the average sat scores are high I admit.

University of Chicago has a FORTY PERCENT acceptance rate.

that is ridiculous; a school that is so easy to get into has no business being prestigious, though the average sat scores are high I admit.

Well it's 35% according to collegeboard.

And high acceptance rate does not equal less prestigious.

I read that the University of Chicago is prestigious first of all, because the academic programs and faculty are stellar and also because the admit rate says nothing about how competitive it actually is. Everyone applies to Harvard/Yale/Princeton. The UChicago applicant pool tends to be more select (which explains the high stats).

because the selectivity rate OF COURSE correlates directly to quality of the institution. sheesh.

Wow this thread epitomizes all that is wrong with College Confidential. Congratulations.

but seriously, an instution that accepts 4 out of every 10 applicant does not deserve enough of a wow-factor to be one of the top 10 prestigious universities.

it just doesn't.

and you know what beefs, why don't you take your beefs somewhere else, i don't have any beefs with you, i'm just staing my opinion, i don't want to start no beefs

meh. i dont even know what to say.

HEY I never said uchicago had no quality.

it's a great school.

but it is waaaaaaaay overrated in terms of prestige.

Are these the kinds of things you think about when the lights are off and you're alone in your room?

Ever consider that maybe not as many people apply to UChicago as other prestigious schools, hence its slightly higher acceptance rate?

Yes.

But still,35 percent? that's even higher than kenyon's acceptance rate

if we stop replying this thread will eventually go away.

Being the site of a breakthrough that has caused a war between the worlds superpowers, powered the homes of millions of people, and killed hundreds of thousands of people isn't grounds for prestige? For God's sakes, what is then?

U of Chicago is very self selecting, unlike HYPSM. People apply to HYPSM because of the name-brand and just for the sake of applying. People who are passionate about learning for the sake of learning apply to U of Chicago. This is the reason why their average SAT scores and number of associated Nobel laureates is on par with that of it's peer schools, HYPSM.

jmanco49 is trolling--don't fall for it, beefs.

I'm not trolling.

It honestly ****es me off that people are fellating University of Chicago because it's in the top 10 of the us news rankings while there are so many more selective schools like Rice and Harvey Mudd and UT plan II that get shafted incomparison.

Again, prestige =/= selectivity

Fellating sorry I spit out my juice IRL.

As for being in the top ten, in my opinion it is deserving. If you don't like it because you think UChicago accepts too many of its applicants, perhaps you should let US News know -- since I believe that admission rate affects only 0.5% of the overall rankings.

The acceptance rate this year is 27%, it's down quite a bit in the last few years.

Yes, go write a letter to US News and tell them how much UChicago sucks.

This thread deserves to die.

I never said university of chicago sucks.

I'd probably be really happy there.

but people are oberraying its prestifge/
