iloveit .

I knew I should've rolled a pali

I also agree that Chicago is a good school, BUT it shouldn't be ranked this highly.

Do either of you have any reason why? Minus the acceptance rate

first of all, the acceptance rate is ridiculously high (for a top ten school!)

I mean, 40 percent? geez.

Also, it's the place where fun comes to die. Have you read the fiske book? it basically says that although u chic has tried make itself appear more, don't believe it, it's still a workaholic.

One of my mom's friends said she had never seen a more miserable group of people than u chicago students.

plus, no good sports team and no school spirit.

of course, i'd still be really happpy to go there, but other schools dwarf it.

You forgot it's horrid location.

oops. on the plus side though, chicago has really good pizza and hot dogs.

=/ I'm not even going to bother to counter your argument. This is sad. I'll earn my experience points elsewhere.

Well, the thing is, all of the other top 10 schools completely dwarf university of chicago in terms of prestige and selectivity, so you had better have a pretty substantial reason to put them in the top 10.

and I don't see many.

Lol I was too lazy to add my arguments why UofC shouldn't be ranked as highly.

It's 27%...a bit higher than schools like Gtown and Cornell.
Nothing to do with prestige.

Nothing to do with prestige. And yuou'd be hard pressed to find "good" sports teams at most elite schools. Compared to big state schools, only Stanford, Duke, Gtown, and a few others can really compete.

How about top notch professors and programs in pretty much everything offered?

I wonder who this was?

The colleges are trying to convince kids that their worth should be measured by whether or not they get into HYPSM because those noobs support the us news rankings.

They are trying to scare kids into thinking that if they don't go somewhere prestigious, they're losers without prestige or connections.

They want more people to apply so they can boost their ranking and selectivity.

It's depresssing.
[/quote]

And so now you take a school that doesn't do that and you criticize?

the fiske book says 40 percent.

and this year must be some insane anomaly that will surely never occur again to such an extent.

40 percent is too high to be considered top 10 prestige material.

Yeah, I don't know why anyone would want to go to U Chicago... the students aren't very smart (I mean, they accept like half the applicants), the faculty is mediocre, there are only like 80 Nobel Laureates affiliated with the university, the library has only like 8 million volumes, etc.... why would anyone want to go to U Chicago? Pah, plebeians.

What do you mean doesn't do that?

You have no evidence that they don't use the rankings to attract applicants.

And anyways, that's not what I'm talking about.

Chicago is an amazing school! However, I also feel that it is a bit misplaced in the top ten. I feel top fifteen would be more appropriate.

I don't know why I keep coming back to this thread. I just want to see what stupid thing you have to say each time...thank you, I'm amused :) if you could only induce sleepiness...
