Sid Rich dorms / quality of life...

Can someone tell me about the living situation at sid rich? When I visited I stayed in Mcmurtry rooms and they were gorgeous and had bathrooms to themselves. I know there's a lot of variation among the different residential colleges, and I couldn't find the floor plans on the sid rich website. I just got my sid rich letter. Point me to some info please?

I actually really like Sid’s setup. All of the rooms are suite-style, with two doubles sharing a bathroom; the doubles are (generally) sort of L-shaped and divided into two sections. They’re big. No singles, sorry, unless you end up being president. You have super big closets that I am jealous of. I have floorplans on my computer, message me your e-mail and I can send them to you.

Also, it’s a good mix between suite and floor culture, which I don’t think any other college does quite as well.

I was wondering the same thing, since I just got my letter from Sid today. I’ve been reading things online and it seems like Sid is one of the colleges with more of a “party culture”… is this really true? I ask this because I’m generally pretty quiet and I’m not really into that kind of scene, so this has me kind of worried…

yeah me too about the party scene… I just hope I’m not on the 7th floor…

I just pm’d this to sarahausten - the party scene on Sid 7th has a reputation, but I promise you it’s not any wilder than the freshman party spot at any other college. Martel has the Sallyport, Will Rice has Long Hall, Lovett has 2nd floor - the list goes on. Sid has distinct floors (2nd and 5th I think) where they generally place people who aren’t as interested in going out drinking every night :slight_smile: You’ll be fine.

Here is a floorplan for one of the floors of SRC. Each room (in gray) is a double. You have a suite which has two doubles and a bathroom. SRC does not have any singles

Partial hijack for my first post…

Does someone know where we can get a floorplan of the rooms at WRC? My son has been assigned there.

Also, are there “non party” floors at WRC? If so, how can he be assured of getting on one of those floors?

Thanks!

@Stanwood -
Will Rice’s website is being re-done, but there should be floor plans in the o-week book, which you will be receiving shortly. Will Rice has two key sections - an older hall full of double-rooms, and a newly redone section that just opened last year. There are definitely non-party areas at WRC, and o-week coordinators are generally very good at assigning rooms to freshmen based on answers to the housing forms.

stanwood - let me see if I can find and post floorplans for WRC

Thanks for the info.

He clearly stated that he does not party so we’re hoping they take it seriously when determining a roommate and area/floor in the dorm. It’s not a religious or moral issue really, it’s more of a “my body is a temple” issue. I hope he finds like minded folks down there.

You will be ok. There are many people who prefer a quiet place to live and there are those who like it noisy. The advisers are usually good with honoring these requests

Sidizen here. I’ll give a short answer so as not to spoil the O-Week fun. Rooms are exactly as silentsailor said, suites of two doubles with a shared bathroom (you may be interested in knowing that all rooms have walk-in closets). As for partying being a problem, honestly, don’t worry about it. True, it can get loud on the weekends, but for the most part we are a fairly civilized bunch. Also, the distance between floors helps a lot with noise control, so unless the party is going on right outside your door, it won’t be too distracting.
