So.. what exactly do I want to do if I am planning on doing Siemens.. I'm a Junior. . and havent applied to anything at all.. what do you suggest I do.. isnt it too late?

Can juniors apply as individuals, or must they apply as teams? If I apply as a team but am the only one who performed the research, can I simply get one of my classmates to fill in the requirement? Sure the classmate may not have conducted the research - but might help with proofreading the abstract and other materials. ;)

Juniors must be a part of a team. You should get someone who can help with the research, since if you make it to regionals, it is a big disadvantage if only one person knows the stuff, but if that's all your aiming for then its fine, but you may not feel good about giving someone a free ride like that. I'm sure you can find some good people to work with. Remember, they do not need to be in the same school as you.

Ah - I see, thanks! Hmm - some programs do only involve one student working with an individual mentor though.

Simfish, are you awake from yesterday or did you just wake up? I still haven't gone to bed and it is 6 AM here...haha anyways, I see what you mean about the individual nature of summer programs. Remember, you have August and September during the school year to work on SW projects, and I did my entire project during August and September, so if you do an individual project during the summer at a program, remember that you can always come home and continue work with a partner. Try to find the best partner you can, and don't simply ask your friends or people near your own ability level. Some of the top people in your state may be willing to work with you simply because you already have work done, and you might want to remember that your potential partner must be intelligent enough and motivated enough to catch up on all the work he/she missed. Also, you can enter into all the ISEF-affiliated fairs toward spring. Good luck to you simfish. I am sure you will be very successful as I have seen how passionate you are about all of this, and I bet you have a good shot for RSI/SHARP next year!

Thanks, zogoto! :) I just napped early and woke up early - so much more energy and no distractions from parents/siblings. :)

How did you get your partner?

We knew each other throughout middle school but never talked really. Then, in freshman year, my parents urged me to do the science fair, and this kid is known to be very smart, so I asked him. We were partners for 2 science fairs before we started our SW project, and we worked together continuously for about 21 months. Now, however, we are on separate projects and competeting against each other next week for a spot in ISEF.
