Siemens

If you are currently a Junior in HS, is it too late to try to do a project for the upcoming year .. ? Thanks.

nope. now is a good time to contact college professors or whatever for your research and stuff.

Thanks, then I assume this is not something I would put on my college app if I did it 12 grade year?

It really doesnt matter, looks like a great opportunity to engange in some competition.

definitely. actually, the finals is in early december, so if you make it to that level, it's still in time to put it on your app (assuming most deadlines are late december). and you can always update your app after you sent it in. good luck to you, because i'll be doing a project over the summer too.

The deadline for registration is in like September and the paper is due on October 1st. This time last year, I had only JUST emailed a professor, and I started my internship for 1 week over the summer, and then actually got hardcore from August to October on the project, submitted it, and by some miracle go to Region Finals. It's not too late. In fact, maybe its early?

Hehehehe, Siemen...

lol thats why I don't like the name.

zogoto, what was your project on?

btw, you have to be American to participate in Siemens?

Could I start e-mailing profs in May? I'm applying to 8 summer progs and am not sure whether I'll be accepted or not - so could I simply wait? Or is May too late?

i recommend march/april though, but i'm not sure. anybody?

If you apply to 8, simfish, I'm sure you'll get in...haha...
My project was on coral bleaching. Abstract here:

http://www.siemens-foundation.org/2004/UC%20Berkeley/docs/Christensen%20Abstract.pdf

Holy crap, 27% chance of rejection to all 8 summer programs given a 15% chance chance at each one. I'm likely to be accepted then, w00t. But 27% is still a very real percentage. 43% for 10% chance at all of them.

LOL you did a statistical analysis on your chances??? You seem motivated though, so you will have a bigger chance...Then again, for some reason I recall that you are a sophomore?? This makes RSI and SHARP (two of your places, right?) very hard.

Hey zogoto, what's your AIM?

That was easy - simply raise .85 to the 8th powetr.
And I think I have an almost 0% chance to half of the summer progs I'm applying to, and a 25-35% chance to the rest/ Hmm oh and I'm a sophomore so then that reduces my chances too - so I'll put it at 10% each and 45% chance of rejection at all 8. But still with 43% odds are I'll get in.

BTW - zogoto - how did you contact your prof? DId u do random e-mailing or did you actually indicate interest in coral bleaching? Did you tell the prof what you already done?

Wait - is RSI open to sophomores too?

Apparantly, yes, but the pre-req is that you must be a god or goddess of some kind.

RSI is open to students who have completed the third year of high school, or the equivalent, by the summer of 2005. The twenty-second annual summer session of RSI will be held at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from June to August, 2005.

My aim is vinny919.

I contacted some random profs, but had done a lot of work in coral bleaching prior to contacting the prof.
