A good way (IMO) to answer this question is to try one of the available actual exams in each level (two per level are in the CB book), see what you get, and decide which is best for you. You’ll still have one more test for practice after studying for the test.

Really? Three/sitting? My son is taking Math 2 & Chem. We hadn’t considered a third. He’s going into engineering. I guess he could take Spanish as he’s finishing his 4th year (not AP but with a very comfortable A) to show he’s well rounded? He hasn’t done any of the AP classes in history/social studies. He has taken AP English with A’s but really doesn’t like it.

He will be applying to UVA (which requires 2), VTech (which will take them but doesn’t require them), and GTech (I don’t believe they require them). He will have to come up with a safety or two as none of the three are ‘safe’! He hates test taking and I don’t relish the thought of putting him through another test just because he happens to be there anyway. The only bump I could think of here is that UVA considers foreign language to be a core class. He is taking a 5th year of spanish to stay competitive, even as an engineering applicant.

Any thoughts? Is that third test necessary in his case?

Here are my son’t thoughts on why he wants to take 3. His dream is to apply to MIT which requires math and science. He is also considering another school which requires 2 tests, but it doesn’t matter which subject. So he is thinking that if he messes up on either math or science then he still has 2 solid tests to report to school #2.
