Significance of a badly-worded sentence in SOP?

I just went back and read my SOP again and found this sentence:

During my senior year, I was became a teacher assistant and grader for two senior classes involving concerning experimental techniques and heat transfer.

I bolded the redundant words that I somehow managed to not delete. I think it was because MS Word on my work computer does not properly delete words when I use backspace or when I highlight a word and type over it. Consequently, I highlighted one of the two words and ?typed? over it and left it at that while I was reading over it before I sent it. Should I ask the graduate admissions to see if they can replace my SOP or just hope they glance over the sentence and don?t notice the problem? How important is this problem?

The best part is that I somehow managed to do it to this sentence only and every other word I replaced was fine...

If you ahve already submitted it, I wouldn't worry about it too much. In the future, however, i woudl reccomend having someone read your SOP before you submit it....people can catch things like this while computers may or may not catch them. In particular, I would suggest a professor or a supervisor. Good luck!

I actually did have somebody read it. As with any other thing relying on people, they wait til the last minute and I got it back right before the deadline. Those words may have actually been as a result of my friend's editing, but it's easier to explain with my MS Word acting up.

I read it quickly after I got it back for stuff like this, but because I was reading quickly and I knew what I wrote, I skipped over the redundant words...

The sad part was that I submitted this to my top choice.

Everyone makes mistakes like that in their statements...we're only human afterall...I seriously wouldn't worry about it, especially if the rest of your application is strong. Plus, if the actual content of the SOP is good and presents you an a manner that would lead admissions to believe you're a good match for them, a couple of little wording faux pas won't make a difference.

Good luck!

You're right, there's no point in stressing over this. Thanks.

I had a badly worded sentence in my application statement and still got into the unis I applied to.

Haha. I made really stupid mistakes in my application too. In one of my SOPs, I spelt conscientious as conscious. And the title of my writing sample for each of the schools I applied to missed a word...Like supposedly, it should've been "Second Language Learners," but "language" was missing...The most funny thing (well, not that funny), one of the professors who proofread my paper, made some revisions to my title WITHOUT spotting the missing word...I found it out after I sent out all my apps...
