I have read a lot of scholarship application essays, and would bet money that the adcoms won't notice the missing word. They are reading the essay to learn about you, not to copy edit it. More than likely, they'll insert a word that makes sense without even realizing that you accidentally dropped a word.

Regarding the missing word- I did the same thing. I just dropped the admissions office staff an email and kindly asked them if they would insert the missing word into my online application.

Well, its a risk. They may not even notice, and you telling them may reveal your mistake. Or, the missing word may be noticed and taken as a lack of revision. What I'd do, is send them a revised copy of your essay, saying something like you weren't sure whether the online app truncated part of your essay (or something like that). That way, you'll have a viable excuse, and they won't even notice that you added the missing word!

I agree with letting it go. There isn't much you can do to fix it even without doing something that might look worse and missing a word isnt that bad. If the rest of the paper is flawless no big deal. If you don't get in I wouldn't expect it to be because you missed a word. Relax and let it be.
