It is all relative. There are actually alot more eating opportunities that are less expensive in NYC than in the suburbs where I live. I’ve actually been pretty amazed at the value of the food I’ve gone out for with my kids in the city. Maybe it’s because there are just so so many eating places in the city.

There are “poor” friendly things to do in NYC. My dd is at tisch and is a really really poor college student and she manages to find all kinds of free or low cost stuff to do. She saw Book of Mormon for $27 - mind you it was standing area but she said her views were better then lots of the $200 seats. She loves every minute of living in the city.

My son who is the actor in the family is definitively going to school in the city. Preferably at a BFA school but if he isn’t fortunate enough to be accepted he will then go to Hunter college as his back up. So, even if he doesn’t get into a BFA program his freshman year he plans on trying to transfer the next year. But just being in NYC has advantages of lots of great classes he can attend that aren’t available in any of the school programs. So, for him NYC is the location he will be in no matter what school. Also, his agent is in NYC so he will be able to be available for auditions without worrying about travel.

But I agree that Muhlenberg is a great training program. I’ve known a few kids that came out of that program and have learned tons.
