Significant Updates

Really quick question here:

In my first semester of high school, I focused all of my energy into building a marketing company (just something I was passionate about) and was able to start from one person to now 7 people with a beautiful website, sharp revenue models, and long term investment. (basically, we have a LOT of potential), and did a lot with extracurriculars in my high school.

Would these achievements be worthy enough to update some of the Ivies and top schools I applied to? (Brown, Harvard, Rice etc.)

Building the marketing company is something that you would have put on your application. So the question is, what has happened of significance since you submitted the application? The point is not to reiterate what you’ve already covered elsewhere.

@skieurope actually, I did not include that. This company really only started in the beginning of January literally like days after my application, and we’ve been growing since. Would it be a good idea to submit an updated resume to the Brown Portal? (I did not submit a resume yet)

You can certainly update. I know I’m oversimplifying, but the challenge I would have as an AO is that you did not think this was meaningful enough to mention 6 weeks ago and now, all of a sudden, it’s this big idea.

@skieurope is right about it. At this point, any random activity is unlikely to make any difference but no harm in sending an update.

@skieurope @CupCakeMuffins thanks, I understand where you might be confused but it really just grew so fast (mainly due to connections). I will send an update.

You said you started it in your “first semester of high school” then you said you started it in January. I’m confused. If you started it as a freshman, it already should have been on your applications. If you started it in January of senior year, then I would not update at this point because colleges will see it as a last minute attempt to pad your application and will question it’s sustainability after you graduate, neither of which tip the needle in your favor.

If, however, you are waitlisted later, you could bring it up because LOCIs are often solicited and/or expected, and in that case it can help if you have something new and of substance to say.

@Groundwork2022 my mistake, I meant during January of my first semester of Senior Year. I have decided to send an update but thank you very much for your input.
