Today i had a friend read an essay of mine about a choir solo that i had and how that kidna reveals how i matured because i used to hate choir. As we are btoh in choir he coincidentally wrote about a choir solo he had as well. We are both using this essay for the UC app, and im wondering if this coincidence could seem as if we were copying each other.

One thing that I’ve learned that is extremely important when writing college essays is to make it memorable and personal; don’t write anything someone else could write. I think as long as your voice shows in the essay and you use specific examples and things that are unique to only you, it should be okay. If it’s a generic, “I hated choir but worked hard and now I’m awesome and did a solo” essay, you should probably rethink it. But as long as it’s not something anyone else could write, I’d say you’re good to go. :)

how do i know that it is something no one else but myself can write?
