Hello,

I plan on applying to the BCS at MIT because a computational view to cognitive neuroscience is what I want to study as a graduate student. I am computer engineer:software at the University of Florida and want to specialize in exactly what BCS offers.

Can you guys help me find other programs in other top institutions that offer something like this? MIT is my dream school but it is also a long shot and I want to apply to as many other places as I can.

Thanks

I am not too familiar with MIT BCS cause I didn’t apply there, but ‘computational view to cognitive neuroscience’ makes me think of NYU CNS (though I didn’t apply there either), perhaps where I am going next year, Princeton Neuroscience and maybe check out Chicago’s Comp Neuro program, but I’m just giving suggestions. I don’t know. Caltech seems like a school that would offer what you are interested in as well, but again, not sure, didn’t apply there.

Berkeley, UCSD,and CMU come to mind for CNS

Yeah, CMU, I was reading about their program a few days ago. I second that.

I want to be able to take a computational approach to cognitive neuroscience, hopefully to apply it to robotics/machine learning.

Anything like that? lol

Also there’s Caltech’s Computation and Neural Systems program. I’d say that and CMU’s Program in Neural Computation are probably the two most similar to what you’re looking for. You might also just apply to machine learning programs; I think many of them use neurally-inspired approaches. It might be easier to do applied work if you’re in a CS/AI/robotics department

I’m a tad bit surprised no one has mentioned the University of Chicago yet. I believe their computational cognitive neuroscience programs are outstanding.

Someone mentioned usign the Faculty Productivity Index to do research but how exactly can I get access to that?

Thanks!

@Pilsung (and sarbruis) I mentioned both Caltech and Chicago in my reply! LOL!!

Faculty Productivity Index… this?
[The Chronicle: Faculty Scholarly Productivity Index](http://chronicle.com/stats/productivity/)

I don’t think it is useful though

Someone mentioned in another thread taht this is the best way to measure specific grad programs. You dont agree?

I have a friend who sounds like she likes the same things as you and she applied to MIT BCS and NYU CNS and said that they both have great computational approaches to cog. sci… Also UChicago has an amazing cog. neuro program that you should definitely check out…

How do I do some research to find out what schools excel in this field?

Find papers you like and see where the authors have jobs.

Where did you grad from neurograd?
