i am applying to william and mary for fall '08, however i am pretty sure i will not be admitted (OOS). are there any schools that are similar to w&m (academically challenging, medium sized, preferably mid-atlantic states + north carolina)? Also, I like the atmosphere of w&m...the "nerdy" children ;)

Holy Cross is located west of Boston and is slightly smaller, has an academic rating of 98 per Princeton review. <a href="http://www.princetonreview.com/college/research/profiles/academics.asp?listing=1023599<id=1&intbucketid=%5B/url%5D">http://www.princetonreview.com/college/research/profiles/academics.asp?listing=1023599<id=1&intbucketid=

W&M's academic rating is only 87. <a href="http://www.princetonreview.com/college/research/profiles/academics.asp?listing=1022846<id=1&intbucketid=%5B/url%5D">http://www.princetonreview.com/college/research/profiles/academics.asp?listing=1022846<id=1&intbucketid=

Davidson is in NC and much smaller than W&M and even Holy Cross and has an amazing academic rating of 99

if you're feeling a little frisky i good number of my friends go to w&m and i've visited enough to say vandy is quite similar.

Vanderbilt is a little bigger than W&M and has academic rating of 94

thanks for the responses, however im looking for schools a little easier to get into. aren't the schools you mentioned harder to get into than w&m? (btw my SAT is 1310 (M&V)

I have heard that for out of state, W&M is comparable to the schools listed above. If you lived in Virginia, it would be significantly easier.

not sure about the nerdy part, but you might want to look at TCNJ, Dickinson and Gettysburg.

unless you're black, or are extremely well ranked in your HS class, i think it will be hard to get into w&m (OOS) or vanderbilt with those SAT scores. besides, Vanderbilt isn't exactly what I would call nerdy anyway.

most nerdy schools are going to be LACs. but other than that, try wake forest (not really nerdy), Holy Cross, Franklin and Marshall, Bucknell, University of Rochester, and the University of Richmond.

Standardized test scores are optional at Holy Cross. If you are in the top 10% of your high school class, you are in at Holy Cross.

im applying to tcnj! i visited gettysburg and was turned off by how important greek life was.

St. Mary's College of Maryland, a public honor's college in St. Mary's City, Maryland and the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

You sound very, very similar to me its scary. I also got a 1310 (670V, 640M) and I'm pretty doubtful about my chances of getting in. I LOVE William and Mary and regret not going ED. Nevertheless, I've got a great offer from Tulane and I would be thrilled to go there as well. There's just something about William and Mary that makes it incredible. I've visited twice and was blown away both times.

I'm from an under-represented state (Oklahoma) and I'm hoping that plays well with the admissions folks. Hope to see you in Williamsburg next year crosses fingers

william and mary is bangin' to say the least. i just finished up my optional essay (which i love). and you are lucky you are from OK, im from pennsylvania, which i've heard is over represented in applications. i also regret not doing ED, but life was hectic around then with sports and such. yeah, i like all the schools that i am applying to, but theres just something about william and mary...hopefully ill see you next year!
