It must have been amazing. If only I could CHOOSE to attend simr :)

aahhh its already april 5th!
hopefully some news tomorrow…

i just read through my essays to reevaluate my app. i realized that in one of them i wrote a sentence that could easily be interpreted by a medical researcher as “EFF YOU AND THE WORK YOU’VE DEDICATED YOUR LIFE TO.” i quit.

I think I’d have a higher chance of getting accepted if they just put all the names in some giant hat/container and randomly picked up 50 names.

@christy12

Haha, I couldn’t agree more

hey at least you guys didn’t misread the essay requirement. i took it as 2 pgs EACH >.>

i quit too GG

I think that what made me stand out as an applicant was past research experience and a genuine interest in science (demonstrated in my writing), not necessarily my grades/test scores. My first essay was about how research can make huge advancements in medicine but can also introduce a level of moral responsibility (bioethics) and the reason I wanted to attend SIMR was that I would like to gain insight about what it means to be a more understanding scientist and citizen in the realm of science and society. My second essay was weaker but I talked about my experience attending a non-traditional high school that had limited resources for me to explore science so I had to take the initiative to look elsewhere <— this essay wasn’t very good compared to the first one.

Don’t be bummed if you are not accepted into the program. I’m certain all of you are competitive applicants who will do great things regardless of what the outcome is. I talked to someone who was on the admissions committe last year and she said that there were more than 52 students that SIMR would have liked to accepted but that was not possible due to funding.

Please please PLEASE! Somebody post as soon as you here from SIMR…

Hey, just out of curiosity, are you guys hoping to attend Stanford when you graduate?

Does anyone know what number to call to get in touch with the folks who administer SIMR? I really need to make a decision regarding another program (before end of the day today), and was hoping to hear back from SIMR before that.

Are they entertaining calls under such extenuating circumstances?

I called a couple weeks ago for the same reason. My dad had to call like the head of the medical department since simr didnt have a number and then they got back to us later that day. Explain to them you situation. Go for it but realize they do not like it.

Trish - go to RSI and take sMITten with you. It is more established and well known unless you are interested specifically in medical research.

I have a feeling we may hear today.

Still haven’t heard anything…how about you guys?

Nothing. I realllly want to know!

Me neither. :/

i guess its not today then

Aaggh ! I"m so nervous even though I feel like there’s really no point in hoping I"ll get in. Oh wwweeellllsss.

@ christy12 i feel the exact same way…
i need to make summer arrangements but i still have that glimmer of hope that i might get accepted

@m00nlight22: yea, exactly ! I know I should probably apply for some internship or sign up for college classes, but there’s that 4.5% chance of acceptance ! Ahaha.

Ohhmygodddd
