SIMR 2017 applicants thread

Hi! Is anyone else applying to SIMR this year?
If any alumni have advice about applications, that would be greatly appreciated!
Good luck to everyone on their apps!

I’m definitely thinking about it. What institute would you choose? Are you from the Bay area?

Yeah, I live in SF. Currently my choices are, in order, genetics, stem cells, immunology, neurobiology, and bioengineering (not sure if I want to list the bootcamp or the normal one yet). Definitely applying for those, order of preference might change slightly, I’m kinda indecisive.

Hey guys, I’m applying this year, but will not have an SAT score to send in :expressionless:
Is anyone else in this situation?

^^ I am. On the website it says the scores arent recquired but I was still curious as well.

I only have PSAT scores and scores from a French National Exam I took freshman year. They say SAT scores aren’t required so I’m hoping it doesn’t matter.

I got in last year and did not submit my SAT score

are there any SIMR alumni here?

@futuredoc99 I am filling out the app rn and I am a little stuck on Awards/Recognitions. Would Principal’s Honor Roll count? Would a Stanford summer internship (Summer '16) with CSSSI count or would that be for extracurriculars?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Yes both of those would count  @MatthewW12

Anyone submit the app yet?

Hey! Can you put any college acceptances in the “awards and recognition” section? Or can you only mention it in the essay?

just submitted! super nervous >.<

It’s the night before deadline and I’m having a mental crisis–second guessing my institute prefs and rewriting all my essays omg I’m so nervous
gl all of you

Just Submitted!!!

Feel really confident about my essays, but I didn’t send any SAT/PSAT scores because I haven’t taken any :((
I don’t expect to get in, but I do have URM status and First Gen

I don’t even know if I’m considered as a Bay Area applicant. Technically, I live 1h 20 m from Stanford, not the defined “within 1 hour”…

Can anybody compare SIMR and Simons?

They are both fabulous summer research program. SIMR has 4%(?) acceptance rate which has a higher reputation. Simons has 12% acceptance rate. Simons might have more awards in STS and Siemens.

Everyone nervous/excited for Friday?

I’ve read from previous threads that they call the ones that are accepted. Basically, If there’s no call by 5:00 then it is probably a rejection
