SIMR 2012 -- Stanford Inst. of Med. Summer Research Program

“There were TONS of programs that I looked into that had regional preferences.”
"Oh. SAT: 2190 (710 CR, 730 Writing, 750 math) ← I know it’s weak I didn’t study. PSAT was 222. I didn’t take any SAT 2’s yet.

thanks for further validating my point ROFL
bitter about being the only non-californian accepted?
you don’t need to be so melodramatic about it (:

@alwaysleah Congrats you deserved it :smiley: Still waiting for anything but I hope that I get in. Those people hating on you are super jealous you are qualified and it’s awesome you got in.

@thebusinessboss was through KEI but it’s not available anymore, last year was the last year. At least the website is taken down but you could try calling if you want.

@xlazy357 look it’s not like i’m god. I realize that. I’m a pretty average kid. but i’ve worked really hard and I find it rude for people to say things like that. that’s all i’m saying, take your acceptance or rejection with some dignity. I think that’s reasonable.

@Chemosaurus thanks :)

i’m extremely jealous right now… i live far, far away from cali, but no phone call, nothing yet.

@alwaysleah I’m that guy on the Simons thread :stuck_out_tongue: Just made a different account…still haven’t gotten a call haha

it’s ok camelneedswater
they probably rejected most students who didn’t apply from california (:

There are twenty minutes or so left

@Chemosaurus Simons thread? I didn’t apply to Simons, haha.

the head of the simr foundation said the main factor for simr is diversity (race), not location

so if youre a chinese male and you got in…WOOOOOOOOW I HAVE MAJOR RESPECT!!!

@alwaysleah Oops Jackson ><

Well, I think the fact that so many Californians are getting in is also due to the proportion of applicants. Let’s say it was something like 85% CA residents, 15% out of state, it only makes sense if the majority of those accepted are CA residents. And like someone before state, it’s all fair because out of staters have preference for their local programs, whereas a Californian applying to those programs probably would have less of a chance of acceptance.

@chemosaurus Ohhh well hi! I hope you get in!

Good luck to everyone who’s still waiting :)

“the head of the simr foundation said the main factor for simr is diversity (race), not location”

great took all the whites and blacks (:
if it’s “not location”, that isn’t explaining why someone like alwaysleah got into a program more selective than the others she applied for

@alwaysleah So do I but my chances seem abysmal right now didn’t get an email or a call

thanks a ton. i feel like a small animal who is being choked… My dropping oxygen levels make the fight in me weaken and slowly die.

@realhype they may have thought that she was more suited for this type of program
@camelneedswater wait what?

okay ill just give out like half of my stats (not all beacuse i am insecure) just to show that people need to stop being so bitter about being rejected just because of location
and i got into simr, but i live in proximity, and i got into simons as well, which accepts around 7 people a year outside of new york

uhhh asian…so not diverse
siemens national finalist junior year
siemens semifinalist soph year
usajmo qualifier soph year (usamo this year, but this was after application)
physics olympiad semifinalist

@realhype maybe it’s because I slaved over these essays? Also because I got an internship at a database in between the time I applied to other and to this one. btw, it’s not more selective. J. Craig Venter accepted 20/540. Rockefeller accepted 30 out of 400. Jackson takes around 8%. I was waitlisted at the last, UF SSTP, and I applied 2 months late when there were no slots left. I was waitlisted, and then ultimately rejected when everyone else decided to accept their position.

Can we just drop this? We are going to meet this summer and I would really like to be friends :slight_smile: I’m sorry that you feel that I am undeserving, but you got in, too. Can’t you be excited instead of trying to tear me down?

@Chemosaurus & Camelneedswater good luck you guys! I hope you get in :)

Lol at this realhype person. He/she is probably just a ■■■■■ who didn’t get in. At least, I hope so, because the alternative is that he/she is just a mean-spirited, classless person. alwaysleah, congrats. You certainly deserved to get in. And I’m going to pull a realhype here and add a snarky smiley face to the end of my post. (:

Hey do you guys want to start a facebook group or something to get to know each other a bit before the program? Or we can just chat on here haha (:
