Hey everybody! I am planning on applying to SIMR next year, but I’m from Alabama. They say that they heavily favor Bay Area students, but I know a few out of state students get in. For these out of state students, are the standards for admissions much higher? Like do they need to be absolutely amazing STS finalists and Olympiad finalists, or do they look primarily at essays? I have more than two years of research experience in my area of interest, but I have not been to any science fairs. I spend most of my time in the lab writing a review article that I would like to publish, and I also write book chapters. Thanks y’all!

I am from the area around LA, which is not in the Bay Area. If you have questions PM me.
Hi, I’m a former simr intern. I am also not from the Bay Area. My stats weren’t anything out of this world, but I did take a lot of time to write my essays and got a lot of feedback from some mentors. With that being said, it’s definitely the essays. Focus on the essays
