@nguyenvy Can’t wait!
Hey guys I was accepted into the SIMR Bio-E Bootcamp program. Anyone know what the differences are between the bootcamp and regular lab institutes?
Congrats. To all of you. What states are you from?
@skarlo the difference is that the bio e boot camp comes with no stipend but the other 8 programs do
i got accepted too but i have no idea where i’m going to stay. i live in the bay area, but too far from stanford to drive
@imajennymonster The stipend is not a big concern for me more than the prestige and rigor of the boot camp. Is it any less rigorous or “legit” than the normal institutes? Regardless I will likely be attending as this is still a lot more than I expected to get into, but I want to go in with full knowledge of what entails.
Accepted! I’m from Arizona but I’ll be 18 so hopefully I can apply for Stanford’s summer housing.
@Skarlo I don’t know about the rigor but what I do know is that the bio boot camp is only 3 days a week as opposed to the normal 5 days a week of the other programs. And do you know if you only got accepted for just the bio boot camp? Also the program may be more disorganized because of how relatively new the program is.
what is SIMR? is it just students assisting professor work or carrying out their own designed independent projects in medicine?
@BasedBioGod SIMR is a SUMMER program at Stanford to do medical research for 8 weeks. It has a 4-5% acceptance rate. Its kinda a combination of doing your own thing and getting help from a mentor.
by medical research,
so would you be fully involved in producing your own project (things that could be presented at fairs/siemens/conferences/publications) or would it be more close to joining the mentor’s team? This seems like an interesting program.
@BasedBioGod I mean I guess you could but you are assigned specific areas such as immunology or cancer biology so it would have to fall in that specific area. Oh sorry about the capital summer I type summer a lot in capitals so my phone. auto corrected to SUMMER
Did anyone get a confirmation for the housing form? I filled out the form but never got a confirmation about it!
Hello! I’m a SIMR 2016 hopeful out of San Diego, CA. I was wondering if any of you who have been accepted to the program for the summer of 2015 would be able to look over some of my stats. I greatly appreciate this, as it would really be a great help. Thank you.
Sure you can PM me if youd like @mochilate1897
Congrats to those who successfully completed the program! Any feedback on SIMR ? Any tips for those who want to apply for it ?
@AniAni you can PM me on any questions you have if you’d like
Thank you
