Since Nobody Knows The University Of Rochester....

my GPA is 4.2. 3.86 unweighted... how is that???

You'll get in

nice! thanks.

this school will def. be one of my top choices next year. probably early decision. =)

UR is a very selective school, on the same level if not slightly more competitive than BC and Case. It's centered highly around sciences/research, so it's premed is one of the best in the nation, and on rankings for premed its listed as highly successful (high success rate and highly selective to achieve admission - you can get these stats and rankings in like premed lists). NW is a really good school, and i believe it is slightly higher in the selectivity of admissions.
Yeah, in the last couple of years UR went from being a good school to a really awesome school with a lot to offer. Their admissions ratings are going up each year, and even last year it was shown as extremely selective (PR said it was 99 admissions rating, same as ivies although i dont quite think so) and on the history channel or some weird channel about colleges, they had UR as like where people had the highest avg admitted gpa. It's like 3.78 or something like that. I believe that this year it's supposedly like a breakthrough for UR and they had a great year with applicants so they are gonna increase in admissions rating (better looking admitted percentage) because of ED, and therefore the overall ranking in the college ranking list.
seanguynj-
1400s + should help you in getting in because it's somewhere in the average at UR, but you really need a solid GPA and Extracurriculars.
ronlivs -
REMS program at UR is probably the best in North East, tied with maybe RPI, and high up nationally. Very selective though :

oopppsss, that post was written, and in that time like 4 other posts were made haha

seanguynj, make sure to visit the campus this summer or next fall, i'll be willing to put money that after you see the campus you'll def. do ED :)

what is RPI?

Renssealer... It's a tech school in Troy New York which is located about 10 minutes from Albany... It's another excellent school. It was my original first choice before I saw Rochester.

"We typically receive approximately 600 applications each year for ten openings. " clipped from:

wow... university of rochester's that selective??? =(

i don't know anymore =(

seanguynj do not despair. I was answering ronlivs's question about the REMS program - getting admitted to the Medical school as a freshman applicant (10 openings per year). UR has a general acceptance rate of 56% according to The Insider's Guide to the Colleges 2005 (Yale Daily News).

You can learn more about UR at the CC site:

For REMS there were 450 apps this year.

isnt rochester the coldest city in the US, except maybe some place in alaska?

i'd rather take cold over hot and humid weather... =D

It is cold, but not THAT cold. Minnesota and upper Michigan are colder, probably Chicago, too. But they do get a lot of snow. However, the classroom buildings are connected by underground tunnels so it isn't so bad.

It's cold, snowy, windy, and gray, but it's not the snowiest, coldest, nor least sunny place in the USA. It makes for a serious studying experience. As long as you're not driving/commuting, it's actually interesting weather for 4 years.

has anyone here applied to REMS and received an interview?

i wanted to apply so REMS but after too much contemplation i decided not to. i figured my test scores were not competitive enough. i hope i wont regret not applying to it.

do they base interviews solely on stats? I'm a little unsure of how the admissions processs works for REMS. So first, they review your application. If you have sufficient test scores, then they give you an interview? Or is a wholistic review like ivies, where they look at ECs, essay, recs, and balance them out with test scores. Then, after you are selected for the top 40 for interview, they base admissions solely on the inteview?

ronlivs, I applied to REMS and somehow I made it and I am going for the interview March 17th through the 19th.
