Those who got accepted and are choosing to attend, be proud! I will not be matriculating in the fall, however I had the pleasure of visiting, and I have to say, I was impressed. I enjoyed how everyone I encountered there a) wanted to be there, and b) were intellectual in their own right. I didn't come across a single dumb person. The school pride is high, the students are happy (and that doesn't just apply to the admissions office students, I overnight with a kid who had nothing to do with that), and the facilities are great. If the city of Rochester were a greater metropolitan force, U of R would've been for me.

I've always thought this, but now I have the goods to back it up. U of R is upstate NY's Wash U, the country just needs some more time to recognize it.

I predict U of R to be a power house/hot university in the next 10 or so years.

I thought UR was very similar to Tufts here in MA. Both have similar SAT profiles, both undergrad schools are about 4K, both have a large medical center. The difference being Tufts's vet school vs. UR's Eastman school of music.

The reason for UR's relative obscureness is partly due to it's size, (it's easier for larger institutions to become well known very quickly) and because much of UR's expansions and growth occured within the past 15 or 20 years. In those years, UR has made enormous leaps with new facilities opening up, more PhDs being awarded, an explosion of endowment growth, etc etc. So yes, maybe it is only a matter of years. Who knows.

I think UR is actually already recognized by the country's academic institutions, industry, and professionals. Just not the general public. Which is perfectly fine by me =)
