So stringent? I don’t think so.

So stringent? I don’t think so.

^ Might be a little stringent if you’re talking about admission, but scholarships are a notch higher in terms of difficulty.

b in gp. looks like i can forget abt getting govt scholarship then lol.

gp was the killer for some. 4As 1 U, tts it.

on a separate note, how do I use the “Quote” function to quote other’s post? Thanks (:

Random question. Is Singapore A Levels harder or AP exams harder? Just wondering because I heard many people said A Levels is harder, but some said it depends on the subject and some said AP is harder.

^Fiona: Ohhh! OK, thanks! Asking for a friend: if the visa that he’s applying for is valid from a date that’s near the end of his NS, will he need to bring proof of that date or something?

^iamnicolle

The answer that you were given is correct. Difficulty-wise, for instance, I find

Calculus BC < H2 Math
Calculus AB > H2 Math

For example, you have IVT, MVT, Taylor polynomials, L’Hospital’s rules etc. in their syllabus. Then again, H2 Math carries about… 2.75 APs worth of content? (because it includes stats?)

Personally, I’d say that the average SC-GCE A-Level candidate needs more preparation time than the average AP candidate. But the top AP candidates (>10 APs) will probably have put in more preparation time than people with 6-8 A-Level distinctions.

i have to agree that AB is better in some ways. i got totally pwned in terms of the fundamentals here. they don’t teach us first principles properly in singapore - nothing abt limits, l’hopital’s rule, etc

hi there, this might sound stupid (or not), but is the SGC of any use if i wanna apply to US universities?

this may sound even more stupid, but what’s SGC?

School Graduation Certificate? Nice to have I guess but not as useful as your A-level results slip :p

but as in inside the SGC there’ll be my cca record and testimonial and stuff right? will i be using it when i apply to US universities or will i just use the common application? sorry kinda confused here :S

You will have to use the Common App, no matter what (unless the uni doesn’t use Common app. XD)

I just got back from a holiday!

Okay, I think I’ve asked a similar question before, but after reading your post, I got a bit worried. I’d like to ask (again) if I should bother with the intro modules for subjects like Maths and Econs? (Most probably doing something Econs, Social Science or Finance-related.)

I’m worried that if I do manage obtain exemptions, I may miss out on certain basic topics which were not covered in JC, but are important for more advanced modules.

To frankchn, I went to look for my previous post on this topic. I realized I didn’t answer your question about where I’m headed. I’m headed to somewhere in the Midwest. ;)

Anyone going to MIT from SG?

Just got news yesterday… elated.

^ Congrats!

^ Same here, major congrats! MIT is awesome.

Congrats Zol! I checked out your stats, and I’m glad to see that MIT is increasingly taking in more well-rounded people. You do have olympiad achievements, but also many other kinds… you’re gonna do great wherever you go! and hmm, interested in PSC?
I’m pretty sure they’re interested in you haha

^ Nooooo… don’t get bonded (unless you really do like civil service work ;)) MIT should provide you with enough need-based aid for you to go anyway :).

MIT aid isn’t the most awesome around actually… I’m sure Princeton would offer you more than enough though. Come here!

However, I’ve said this many times but i still think MIT is the most awesome out of HYPSM. It’s my kind of school

I hear Yale has the most awesome aid - it even covers air tickets or some such.

What are you waiting for? Transfer XD

Hey!

Anyone who’s just gotten back their A lvl results and applying for uni mind posting their ECs and results, coupled with the unis they are aiming for, up in this thread so that other really confused juniors may get a gist of the competition out there?

most of the ‘what are my chances’ threads are from american students, and i know those aren’t possible in singapore because how is someone supposed to take up 6 CCAs at one time? So i was hoping, if possible, for some of our own graduates post theirs up as a more accurate description of what is expected?

Thank you! :)
