single dorms

So what do u guys think of NW35?

It’s sparkly[/url”>Ashdown House - Photos of Ashdown]sparkly - I’ll give it that.

How much exactly does the Phoenix Group interact with the NW35 grad community?

haha. it is def sparkly and amazing!!!

I’m wondering, is there a good level of social interaction in the group, especially having pset parties or being able to get help, as it does with other dorms? If NW35 does, I would like to stay there.

I was wondering why Senior House is so much more expensive than East Campus. So far they seem pretty similar to me, from pictures and whatnot.

Senior House has some nicer facilities than EC does, such as central air conditioning and an elevator. I’m pretty sure their building is nicer, too. EC is really cheap; a single in EC costs only slightly more than a triple in Baker. Senior House is priced the same way Burton Conner is, and probably has approximately the same facilities.

oh, ok. thanks.

SH was also recently renovated, IIRC – maybe the summer after my sophomore or junior year.

Mollie is right - Senior Haus was renovated not too long ago and has air conditioning and an elevator. While parts of EC and Senior Haus are similar in culture, Senior Haus is much nicer than East Campus. But if you’ve ever been to EC, you know this isn’t saying much  They probably look the same in pictures because pictures tend to feature the murals, which both EC and Senior Haus have a lot of, but the layouts of the buildings are also much different.

I love East Campus partially because it’s so crappy. We definitely have a lot of freedom. Our house manager identifies that he can’t stop the building from deteriorating, so he lets us do pretty much whatever we want with it. Yes, it’s kind of crappy building, but it’s definitely our crappy building. I feel like this is pretty unique to EC.

^This is a reason I think “shiny/unshiny nature of dorm facilities” shouldn’t be a factor in residence decisions – no matter how unshiny your dorm may be, after a few weeks it will just look like home.

I tried once to look at MacGregor from an outsider’s eye – it’s not terribly beautiful. But that’s not what I saw on a day-to-day basis, because I just saw the place I lived with the people I love.

Dude, Burton Conner is like, HIDEOUS. From the outside, it’s just plain ugly. From the inside it might be even worse. There are so many non-90 degree corners and floors that fluctuate by 2 full inches in places, it’s absurd. It’s all part of the charm. =)
