Single-Room Dorms

Is there any way to request a single-room dorm...at Max P maybe? It's ugly, but I don't know if I can handle community bathrooms -- not my first year anyway. I feel like if I have a roommate, I'll never get any work done. That's how it turned out this summer.

BJ is practically a guarantee single, and its the nicest dorm, with its own (and very nice) dining hall. Plus, underground passageway to the law library is definitely a plus!

I LOVE the look of BJ.

But...community bathrooms...can you give me the details on that? I've grown into kind of a prissy-ish girl who likes her bathroom space. I'm an only child as well...so I don't know. That's the big thing for me.

I don't think it's very easy, if at all possible, to get a single as a freshman with a private bathroom. Maybe at Broadview that would be possible, but I don't think freshmen get singles in max p.

yeah, im sure that wouldn't happen. But in terms of bathroom, I can give you the guy perspective. Over the summer I spent 10 weeks at Harvard, and we were four roomates with a bathroom - but, since we're dudes, no one cleaned it, and it got really gross towards the very end. So as far as guys are concerned, I think that community bathrooms are good since there are people who clean 'em

They don't ahve janitors to clean the bathrooms? That's a pity.

I believe there are some singles, but at the Shoreland you would most likely have a roommate, but the rooms are large and you (and your roommate) would have your own bathroom.

I want a single - does B-J have an elevator/private bath? I know there are singles in Shoreland.

I guess shoreland is better than having a rommate+community bathrooms..I'm kinda like andi except that I might like to have a rommie for a change!!

B-J does not have an elevator, but a very, very select few rooms have a private bath. The first floor double in my house has a private bathroom, and I imagine that there is an analogous situation in other houses.

The Shoreland is not better. It's decrepit and they're selling it. BJ community bathrooms are a good thing. There's even a house or two that feature single sex community bathrooms, and in fact, any house will insist on single sex community bathrooms on at least one floor if there's a person in the house that cares enough.

As far as having a roommate in BJ, it doesn't stop you from studying. A lot of people study outside of the dorm, anyway, and all of the BJ doubles are double suites, which means that you both have your own room, unless you set it up different (Like by bunking your beds--a great way to save space and create a "sitting room".) Our doubles aren't like those doubles in Pierce where two people share a 10x10 prison... Rather, they are like two connected singles.

I saw the community bathrooms in snell and they didn't seem too bad-they're not locker room bad or anything.

My first choice is Snell. It would be nice if I get put in there in a single. Another plus is that it is right in the Quads and gorgeous with its gothic architecture.

Are you guys as excited about college starting in the fall as I am? :)

Zach: I won't go back to a roommate again. I enjoy not having one now - won't go 3rd year with having one. Elevators are only a big deal for movein/moveout, but they are a BIG DEAL for movein/moveout.

What are the community bathrooms like in BJ? Is it like a locker room?
