single or double space essays?

i already applied ED to ILR, and i double spaced my essays. but then i'm hearing things from my friends, who say that college essays should all be single spaced. does cornell really care about whether or not the essay (common app and supplement) is double/ single spaced?

Not a big deal, but most people do single-space them.

double spaced allows for the essay to be more easy to read, but again, it wont matter. you wont be rejected based on the spacing of your essay. just make sure that what you WROTE is good...thats definitely more important

every teacher in my HS demands double spaced, so I didn't give it a second thought
don't think it really matters though

I actually heard that double-spacing an essay is grounds for automatic rejection.

Not. :) I think someone posted something similar once, and one of the responses said that when your essay gets uploaded, it gets re-spaced to like 1.5, so admissions reads all the essays the same way. I don't know if that's true, but it would make sense. Reading them all single spaced would hurt.

holy nuts i got momentarily SCARED due to ur trick stargazerlilies xD
anyways thx for the info all of you.

stargazer, you almost gave me a heart attack...
Btw, wasn't DH AWESOME last night??

Anyway, I double-spaced all my essays because every teacher in HS demands it like sam said.
