Single room Housing? (Exchange Student)

I am an exchange student who will be studying in UVa for the Spring semester, at SEAS. I am looking for single room options, and am quite lost.

Here are the possible options:

IRC

Johnson Malone Weedon

Hereford College

Brown College

Copeley

Faulkner

IRC will be my first choice.. but I am totally clueless on what I should put for my other 4 choices.

Any advice or comments would really be appreciated!

Brown and Hereford would be closest to the Engineering School. Copeley is much farther away and is somewhat isolated from most other undergrads. If you get an application in soon, I’m guessing you will probably get into IRC, but don’t wait.

Thank you. I will go ahead and do the application now. :)

Where will you be coming from, VeridisQuo?

I will be coming from Singapore (South east asia). Really looking forward to it!

It seems that I may have to look for “Off-grounds” housing, as most single rooms on grounds have been taken.

If anyone has a single room to offer for Spring 2013, please email me at ct7wj@virginia.edu

Join a facebook group, such as official university of virginia class of 2015 . people are often looking for roommates on that site. Many students go overseas for a semester so there should be some openings.

Thank you for the tip.
I’m wondering how do other exchange students deal with housing? I obviously cannot visit potential houses until early January, which makes off-grounds housing really difficult to judge.

I had read that many exchange students do live in the IRC.

Why do you want a single so bad?? Are you purposely trying to be anti social. Not to mention most of the people in the singles are pretttty weird.

Probably to avoid getting a judgmental boarding school snob like you as a roommate.

Hi virtuoso1. I’ve been in the army for 2 years, and have attended lots of training courses… every 3 months or so I get a new “buddy” and a new living area. There are about 8-16 people in one large room. From that 2 years I’ve learned that I prefer to be in my own room if possible.

I am extremely introverted, and can go on for weeks without much social interaction. Being social is not difficult for me, but it is tiring. Like how extroverted people have the urge to “go out” and get uneasy when at home for long periods of time, I have the urge to be alone if I am around people for too long.

I would like to take part in as much activities and events as possible during my short stay at UVa. Having a single room allows me to have time alone after a tiring day out, and prepares me for another day of fun. :)
