Here are my SAT scores so far:

Oct (2210): 680 (CR), 800 (W), 730 (M)
Dec (2180): 720 (CR), 690 (W), 770 (M)

Superscore (2290): 720 (CR), 800 (W), 770 (M)

As you can probably see, my sectional scores vary a lot over the sittings (partly because I blanked out on the essay the second time). Math is also frustrating me because despite having taken subject level II (800) and AP Calc BC, I still make some sort of silly mistake each time.

I've been thinking about aiming for Ivy League schools but these scores are discouraging me from doing so.

I'm retaking SAT in June, and I'm confident about raising my superscore to a 2300. Will I be more qualified to apply to these top schools? Or is it still a reach because of my single sitting scores?

Thanks in advance for any input!

P.S. Any advice on how to improve SAT score in general at this stage would also be greatly appreciated. When I'm doing practice tests, my score for each section can still vary from 650 to 800 with no apparent reason...

I would have stopped after I got a 2210. Colleges frown upon taking the SAT too many times. It makes you look obsessive and i’d assume colleges (especially the Ivies since they request to see all of your scores) would think lowly of you for spending $200 one test just to get your ideal score. After this, i’d advise you to give the SAT a rest. You’re more than in ball park with your superscore already!

To improve, I’d advise that you just keep practicing and brush up on areas that usually trick you on the test. If you’re out of book materials you can try free websites like testive and number2 for practice! Good luck!

While I agree with the above on not taking the SAT more than 2-3 times for exactly the reasons mentioned, I would not have stopped at 2210 because the CR component was 680. Regardless, after June, move on. For the June prep, I’d focus on the CR questions that keep tripping you up. Good luck.

@jellybae @skieurope Thank you so much! And yea, this is definitely going to be my last one regardless of how well I do.

How much influence would this kind of score pattern have on college admissions? Would they treat me as a 2300 student (if I reach the superscore after June), or does it look like too much of a struggle?

I know that elite schools obviously look at many other aspects of an applicant, but if my SAT doesn’t fall into the range I would rather reconsider my options.

Seriously?? You’re 10 points from being 2300 now; if you hit 2300, schools will see it as such. Don’t read too much into it.

@skieurope Oh sweet!!! Hopefully that’s the case. I’m just always paranoid about if colleges actually only care about your superscore, even though they always say so…
