Singles/Facilities

I'm visiting Williams in 2 weeks, so I can find this out there, but I figured I would ask:

Is it true that almost everyone gets a single at Williams? I really want one.

How are the athletic facilities? I would most likely just play club soccer, but I want to find a school with nice enough fields/a place for students to work out.

I think every first-year who wants a single gets one, or close to it. After that, it may depend on which neighborhood and how one does in the housing lottery each year.

My D said some who asked for a double did not get one. Williams is an athletic campus. I’m sure you’ll find plenty of spaces to work out.

My D wanted a single but didn’t get it. Still, many freshmen get a single if they want to.

Williams has 3 Freshman dorms. Sage and Williams Halls in Frosh Quad and Mission Park. Frosh quad is a mix of doubles and singles while Mission Park is all singles. Rumor has it if you request a single you will get one (I requested a single and got one, my friend who wanted a double got one).
If you want to be REALLY technical about it… http://campuslife.williams.edu/files/2010/08/BEDCOUNT-2010-2011-Sheet1.pdf</a>
Or a more qualitative approach… [Williams College : Campus Life First-year Housing](http://campuslife.williams.edu/residential-life-housing/housing-descriptions-floorplans/first-year-housing/)

I’m not a big athletics person but the fields looked really nice, and the gym is spacious and the most gorgeous building I have ever seen for a college gym. If Williams College sports success speaks to the caliber of the athletic facilities then they must do very well  [Williams College - Directors’ Cup History](http://athletics.williams.edu/Directors-CupResults-Article)

Hey Mike,
Williams has pretty good athletic facilities, but I think that shouldn’t be a big consideration for you. It’s way more important to see how well you mesh with the student body/ the academic environment. A lot of people who come in as “athlete” types end up doing completely different things by the time they graduate.
