Should I submit my SIR before receiving my financial aid package? If I do it now, can I withdraw?

I actually submitted my SIR before my Financial Aid package, but apparently you’re not supposed to do that? I’m not sure if it really matters

Also does anyone know how we’re going to pay our deposit? I already accepted the offer and it says I wouldn’t be billed the 150 dollars now but later?

I submitted mine already and I have yet to receive the financial aid package.
Does it make a difference?

My parents just filled out the “Parent Dislocated Worker Verif” that was under the required “to dos” and it’s being reviewed at the moment…

Does it matter when you turn in your SIR? If you turn it in later do you have a less of a chance of getting into the college you want?

“Does it matter when you turn in your SIR? If you turn it in later do you have a less of a chance of getting into the college you want?”

I really want to know the answer to this too. I hope somebody knows.

As long as you make sure you turn it in before the deadline, it doesn’t matter when you turn it in. A person who turns in their SIR 1 minute before their deadline will still have the same chance of getting into their preferred college compared to someone who did it the first day.

@Midnight–Do people tend to get into their preferred college of choice? I already SIR’d because I wanted to make sure I got in to my first pick…my deadline isn’t even until June…

I think 80-90% of the time they do. I only met 2-3 people last year who didn’t get in their first pick and that’s because they wanted Cowell.

Is Cowell a desired college? Or is it just smaller or something

I’m really not sure. I know a lot of people that really wanted Cowell, but maybe that’s because those were the types of people I hung out with. I do have one friend who put C10 first and he got placed into Cowell (2nd choice), so I’m not completely sure.

im not sure if i submitted my SIR correctly?? when i log back into the ucsc site my status, just says im admitted, the regular Congrats, you’re admitted page… is it supposed to change after i submitted my SIR?? im still able to log back into my application and click the 7-steps, theres still the box that says decline??? but i payed and after the payment step it said “congrats you have accepted you offer of admission to UCSC” so is accept my admission?? =/

also, am i supposed to make an email account, or will that me sent to my email?
what is SLR (statement of legal residence)??

It might take awhile for the website to actually adjust. When I submitted my SIR 2 years ago, I did it at the last second so I don’t really remember. If you are getting really paranoid you can call UCSC and ask them yourselves.

From what I remember, there should be a link on your UCSC portal that tells you to activate your email.

@MidnightGolfer: thanks, i checked to day and my status is changed! hmm but im still having trouble activating my email. i clicked on the link on the portal and clicked activate but then it says “Your CruzID account is currently disabled”?? am i supposed to receive a pre-made user name from ucsc or do i make it myself?

They usually give you a user name once you activate your email account. Most of the time it is First name initial followed by your last name. Ex. John Doe = jdoe@ucsc.edu

Are you trying to log in to cruzmail? UCSC disabled that service and is currently using Slugmail, so try to log in to that. However if you didn’t receive your account log in at all, maybe call UCSC or wait a few days for the system to change.

“Also does anyone know how we’re going to pay our deposit? I already accepted the offer and it says I wouldn’t be billed the 150 dollars now but later?”

I’m kind of confused about this too… I accepted my offer of admission and ranked my colleges and everything, and on my application status, it says “You have completed your acceptance to UC Santa Cruz for fall quarter 2010 – congratulations!” They never asked me to pay a fee… My friend, however, DID have to pay a fee, so I’m not sure if I’m missing something. =/

Is it possible that they waived my fees? I did qualify to get my application and placement testing waived. I have no idea if that applies to SIR fees as well.

yes, it applies to it as well. they waived your SIR fee.
