Sister's doing well...will that help?

My second daughter wants to go to UNC-CH where her sister is a sophomore and is doing well. My older daughter had a more uniform record; her scores were in line with her GPA, letters, honors, etc. My younger daughter has a much more diverse record, with a much lower GPA but many compensating factors (Governor's School, National Merit Semifinalist, excellent SATs, etc.) that weren't part of my older daughter's record.

Does anyone know whether admissions officers at UNC-CH take into consideration the performance of siblings who are current students?

No, alumni connections really do not matter if you’re in state. It can for out of state, but if she still hasn’t graduated the admissions people are not going to take the time to look up her GPA, etc.

Think about it - if you’re in NC, and you’ve lived in NC for awhile, chances are you have a relative who’s gone to UNC.

Good luck!

Makes sense. Oh well, we’ll have to figure out how to make her shine on her own merit. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

The fact that your daughter is in state, has been to Governor’s School, good SAT’s and National Merit finalist. I can’t imagine her not getting in. Make sure her essay is very good and I think she will get in.
