current students...

Michigan is huge.... with tons of undergrads...

Do you guys ever feel lost in the mix?

Is it just to big.... campus size and student population????

Current students, can you please express your views on this

My answer: no.

There may be a lot of people at Michigan, but the campus community and campus are both rather small. For example, if I leave my dorm on any given day, that chances are good that I'll see someone I know. I don't feel lost in the mix here.

^^ I totally agree. My graduating class in high school had 6 students, so if anyone should have felt that Michigan was too big, it would be me... and I don't think it's too big at all... I'll run into people I know all the time... sometimes I'll be walking across the diag and it'll strike me how HUGE michigan is, but it's awesome... it's like you're a part of something.

That was the first thing that a lot of people told me when they tried to convince me not to go to Michigan: It's so big, you'll just be a number. It's not like that at all, socially or academically. There's so many different types of people...you can do absolutely anything you choose on Friday nights. Even in your extracurriculars, everything's accessible. It's easy to get involved and be a really big part of something if you want to be. I graduated from a class of 70 kids, basically the same group of kids I'd known and did absolutely everything with literally since I was 2, and I didn't have any problems with the size or diversity of the student population at all.

The Michigan undergraduate population is 5 times the size of the town where I went to high school, and I love it. You will quickly find your niche or niches... for most people, it's the latter. There is something for everyone here. I have an eclectic mix of friends. My two roomies next year are from Michigan and I grew up several states south. You will learn so many different things from the people you meet and the overwhelming majority of people here are very friendly.

It doesn't feel that big because you will never see everyone at the same time. So when you hear that Michigan has a student body of over 30,000, don't imagine an overcrowded campus or anything. It feels rather small. The only time you see so many students is during the football games in the student sections.

My high school graduating class had just 25 students and I never felt that Michigan was large. Obviously, Michigan has a HUGE student body, but the campus is well compartmentalized and the faculty and resources are in sufficient abundance to ensure that students never feel like they are "just another number".

ok... thanks for all of the responses

The good part is, if you feel like getting away for a while and want to be independent, you can. If you want to do stuff with people, it's easy to become part of something. You can go both ways at the U of M.

oh... thanks

I like that last comment......
