SJSU or UCD?

I've been thinking about this for weeks now. I narrowed down my college options to two schools: San Jose State University and UC Davis. However, I can't seem to pick between them!

I live only 10 minutes away from SJSU, so if I went there, I would commute. Here's the issue: a part of me wants to go to UC Davis to experience living on my own. (And I think I would be able to make more connections at Davis, because SJSU is a commuter campus). Another part of me wants to stay home, so I can spend more time with my family.

There's also the pricing issue. SJSU is A LOT cheaper than Davis since I won't be staying in any dorms. If I went to Davis, I'd have to take out 8k in loans each year. Is it really worth it?

I'm majoring in Computer Science. Despite the fact that Davis bears the UC name, I don't think going to SJSU would leave me at a major disadvantage in future career opportunities due to the fact that SJSU has a location advantage. (SJSU is located right in the heart of silicon valley)

I need your opinions. Persuade me or dissuade me from going to one of these schools.

Thank you.

tl;dr: UCD vs SJSU. Help.

SJSU is probably about half commuter and half residential, based on the percentage of frosh living in the dorms. The overall percentage living in the dorms is lower, because most non-commuter students move off-campus after frosh year.

Did you get a direct admit into SJSU? If so, I would go to SJSU. I don’t think you can go wrong in that major in SJ.

CEO of WhatsApp that was bought by Facebook for $19 billion went to SJSU, it didn’t hurt him. However, I think you should go to UCD for the college experience.
