The regular decision round was extremely competitive this year given the fact that Skidmore filled half of the freshman class with ED students. That left 8500ish applications for 300ish openings! Congrats to all those accepted! Next year will be even tougher. Usually schools get an onslaught of applications when they change to a test optional school!
Can you please tell me what the envelope looked like? What the accepted envelope looked like (or the rejected/deferred one)? Thank you, and congratulations to your D.
Deferral was a small envelope. Acceptance was a big envelope with financial aid details included. Haven’t actually seen today’s package - just getting some details by text from my D who is enjoying her last day of Spring Break. Afraid she’ll head back to school tomorrow with a major case of Spring fever / Senioritis now that she’s heard from her first choice school.
Accepted! Got a big envelope today in Boston, MA. I’m still deciding between a lot of schools, so I’m not sure I will be attending. Plus, cost is an issue as well, so that adds some uncertainty.
For those who are curious:
GPA: 3.3 UW
SAT: 1930
Extracurriculars: Lots of social justice/ human rights work/ volunteering
Recs: I didn’t see them but pretty good I think.
The weakest point of my application was definitely my GPA and SAT
Congrats to those who got in!
Also, for those curious…
GPA: 3.9 UW 4.7 W
ACT: 31, 32 superscored
Mostly AP and Honors classes
Essay: One of my strongest points IMO
Recs: The ones a saw made me blush
ECs: Musical instruments, volunteer work, leadership role, honors societies, art, travel
My aunt does work at Skidmore so I’m sure that helped, or at least is the reason for the handwritten note on the bottom of my acceptance letter.
Don’t think I got any scholarship money though, unless that comes separate. I’ve gotten some really nice offers from other schools so Skidmore’s price is a turn off.
No guarantees, but I have found those tools to be pretty accurate. The cost level that schools think families can afford can be rather shocking. Skidmore is not need blind, but once they accept they are pretty good at meeting need… Good luck!
@jadetortoise its awesome that you have some choices! Good luck in your decision making. congrats on your acceptance to skidmore!
@Tarahific the scholarship awards went out a few weeks ago. There are not many awarded and it is an application that must be completed. I believe they are the Porter scholarship in science and math and Filene scholarships which I think are in the arts… If you did not specifically apply, you will not be getting one of those. If you did apply and have not heard, you did not get selected. I think that is all that skidmore offers for merit. Skidmore was extremely generous with financial aid and met 100%.
Oh, I didn’t realize Skidmore didn’t award other scholarships besides those two. I don’t really qualify for much financial aid, but Skidmore’s price tag is still huge for my family.
Rejected. I’m a bit disappointed because I loved the area, but I already have enough acceptances so this isn’t the end of the world for me. My ACT was 31 and GPA 3.8. Congrats to everyone that got in!!
@Tarahific By scholarship do you mean those specific merit scholarship or just financial aid in general? Because my financial aid award was another sheet in the acceptance package, it was behind the acceptance letter. You did apply through the CSS Profile right? Otherwise that would be very strange not to get any aid at all.
^ they are expecting a class size of 680 but will accept more than they can have because they don’t expect everyone accepted to attend. Its called yield control.
@memedawgz yes I’m pretty sure I read it somewhere in the past few days that everyone gets a handwritten note. I think it was further back in this forum, like that’s also part of why they do snail mail for non-internationals.
