I just completed my first semester at Skidmore and absolutely loved it. However I feel like I may have sold myself short applying there early decision. Now that I have a good gpa at Skidmore (3.6) I am thinking of applying to Brown for next fall. I don't know if it's worth risking not being as happy there as I am at Skidmore as well as graduating with potentially worse grades at Brown then I would receive at Skidmore. I also like the smaller community of Skidmore and don't want to be lost in the crowd at Brown. If I get into Brown should I transfer??

Apply and see if they accept you. Then decide whether to leave Skidmore.

(But, if you were my kid, I’d tell you to grow up and live with your original choice/decision. The grass isn’t always greener. You’re very lucky to have good grades and happiness right now. I’d have a hard time supporting my kid just because he caught a case of buyer’s remorse or “what if syndrome.”)

agree with dougbetsy (as usual)…

why fix something that isn’t broken? you are “happy” and are getting good grades…you are way ahead of the game…

Isn’t Brown pass/fail?

My cousin graduated Brown within the last five years and she told me:
- We all know Brown is very hard to get into, but she said her private high school was harder than Brown, I would not assume your gpa at Brown would be lower; and
- While most schools have “unusual” students, Brown had more than most.

I would start the process of transferring. Sometimes starting something helps you decided.

If your heart is set on Brown apply, but know that acceptance rates for transfers are about 8% (this from the 2009-2010 common data set). Also, transfers typically get less financial aid help.

Don’t burn your Skidmore bridges until you know for sure, especially if you are happy there.
