Hello,
Does anyone here have experience with either Skidmore or Connecticut College? Specifically, what is campus life like at both schools? How devoted are the professors? How diverse would you say both schools are?

Thanks in advance!

I haven’t heard much about Connecticut College, but I heard that most kids who go to Skidmore like it.

My D is interested in both of these schools; so far, we have visited Conn, and are planning to check out Skidmore in a few weeks. Skidmore is more of a known entity where we live; we came across Conn on our own from the guide books and online. It seems they both have an artsy and open feel without being too “out there.” Academically, they aren’t in the top bracket of LACs but offer strong, interesting programs nonetheless, especially for my daughter who wants to combine areas of study as well as travel abroad. As far as diversity goes, again, both schools seem alike in this regard, having some success in promoting an ethnic mix, but still having a ways to go.

I think you’ll find that there are lots of cross-admits between the two. (D was one.) Conn seems to have a stronger internship program with better integration into the overall program; Skidmore is probably a stronger in the arts. Conn seems to have a more extensive science program, and may be better in many of the social sciences. Skidmore’s campus is better maintained, Conn’s makes it easier to get to NYC or Boston via the train.
