I know I’m posting this super late, but it never crossed my mind. I am an Aerospace Engineering major and I tagged to Davis(my TAG was accepted). My CC allowed me to go straight to Calc 3 because I passed the AP Calc BC test with a 4. However, I know that only allows me to skip Calc 1 at most UC’s. I passed Calc 3 with a B, and Linear Algebra/Differential Equations with an A. Does anyone know how this will affect my decisions? Will I just get rejected, or will I have to take Calc 2 at the UC if accepted? Thanks in advanced.

I have the same problem. If UCs don’t accept 4s will I have to take Calc 2 after I transfer? I’m really hoping this isn’t going to hurt my chances of getting into these UCs
Same ^. I’m hoping that they’ll let it slide since I’ve taken multivariable already and linear algebra already.
I just realized I’m in a very similar situation. I applied to UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCD, UCI as a computer science/engineering major. At my CC, I was able to skip Calc I with my score of 3 on AP Calc BC. And so, I went on to take Calc II, Calc III, Linear Algebra, and Diff Equations and got an A in all those classes. I just checked their requirements and it seems that UCLA requires a 5 on the BC exam to satisfy their Calc I requirement (31A):
School of Engineering and Applied Science:
A score of 3-4 earns credit for Math “Calculus” (8 units); score of 5 earns credit for Math 31A (4 units) and Math “Calculus” (4 units).
Does this mean that I’m basically screwed for UCLA? It seems that the other UC’s I applied to, including Berkeley, allows for a AP Calc BC score of 3 to satisfy Calc I.
Did you mean Calc AB? A score of 5 for Calc BC should satisfy Calc 1 AND 2 for any UC
@hoshizora According to the UCLA Engineering requirements, a 5 on the Calc BC exam will ONLY satisfy Calc I, not Calc II. For any engineering majors, I believe the only way to satisfy any calculus courses with AP credit is to score a 5 on the BC exam. They seem to have stricter requirements than all the other UC’s.
"Mathematics – Calculus BC
All schools except Engineering and Applied Science:
A score of 3 earns credit for “Calculus” (8 units); score of 4 earns credit for MATH 31A (4 units) and “Calculus” (4 units); score of 5 earns credit for MATH 31A (4 units) and MATH 31B (4 units).
All scores satisfy Quantitative Reasoning requirement.
School of Engineering and Applied Science:
A score of 3-4 earns credit for Math “Calculus” (8 units); score of 5 earns credit for Math 31A (4 units) and Math “Calculus” (4 units)."

I found this old thread (http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/discussion/comment/18702784) and it seems that taking and passing a higher level Calculus course will override the AP exam requirements for the lower level one? Can someone please confirm this?
Just emailed UC Davis, and they said
“You will not have to take Calc II, if you have already completed Calc III. We do not allow students to take math courses out of order.”
I don’t know about the other UC’s. But I’m going to assume the other’s will do the same. I also think this means it won’t affect my decisions, as my TAG was already accepted?
For UCLA, 5 on AB or 4 on BC = Calc 1, 5 on BC = calc 2. For UCLA engineering school, 5 on BC = Calc 1 ONLY, must take calc 2 at cc. UCLA does not give course credit, only unit credit, for 3s on Calc exams. If you skipped a class at cc and you dont satisfy the AP credit for UCLA’s calc, look at it as you are missing a class.
@DSoriano Your tag being accepted gives some good news because last year, someone was in the same situation for UCI’s tag but got rejected.
@DSoriano In theory they have what’s called math validation, which means the level you’re at validates any course level before, even if you got an F or never took the previous course. However, the validation only goes up to getting you into calc 2. I’m not sure how this might play out. They always like seeing math courses over AP. This is just an idea: You could email the UCs (not Davis as you’re in) and note that you just found out about this possible issue and can take calc 2 in summer, if needed. You don’t get credit as it’s out of sequence but they may add it to your provisional, noting a B grade for summer calc 2 or something like that. They might also send back a response saying you don’t need it.
@Ohm888 Yea I’m going to send out an email to the UC’s. I just wanted to know how it affected my decision, I don’t think they’ll change my decisions at this point even if I say I’ll take calc 2 over the summer.
@Ohm888 who should I email?
@hoshizora through your portal
@Ohm888 thank you!
