Skipping a grade = No acceptance to FSU?

I really want to apply for FSU. I am home schooled, so I have school all year round, but I was able to skip 10th grade. So right now, I'm a Junior. I want to major in film. Please don't tell me not to, I've already heard from everyone, but it's what I want.

Anyway, on the FSU application site, this is what it says:

Required High School Course Units

The units listed below represent the minimum required for admission consideration:

4 units of English, at least three with substantial writing requirements
4 units of mathematics at the Algebra I level and higher
3 units of natural science, at least two with laboratory experience
3 units of social science
2 sequential units of the same foreign language or American Sign Language
2 elective units, preferably from the English, mathematics, natural science, social science, or foreign language areas

Satisfying these minimum required units does not guarantee admission.
The typical student accepted to Florida State has 4.5 units of English, 5 units of math, 4.5 units of natural science, 5 units of social science, and 3.5 units of foreign language.

Since I skipped 10th grade, I am missing a whole year of work. I will have one less than everything on that list. Does this mean I won't be able to apply? Should I go to 10th grade? I don't know what to do, but I really hope someone can help me out!

Should I just go back a year? I haven’t done any testing yet. I literally just started.

What courses are you missing?

For 9th grade I’ve completed:
Biology A and B
English A and B
Global Studies A and B
Psychology A and B
Algebra A
Spanish A

My homeschooling didn’t actually tell me, but they just moved me to grade 11. So far I am in Earth Space Science A.
And that is all. I only do one course at a time.

I’m very worried, because I want more than anything to go to FSU.

You need to go by what you need to apply to FSU and you need to double up if you want to apply to FSU in a year.
Earth Space Science A is not a lab science.
You have to fully understand your home school course curriculum or you will mess yourself up.

I understand. Thanks for the advice. I am going to talk to my guidance councilor and see what she can do. (FLVS) If that means going back a year I will definitely do it.

I think what I will ask her is if I can be in grade 10 and do 10th grade credits. And then when I’m finished continue on regularly. You’ve helped me to understand much better.
Thank you.

I’ll do what ever I have to.

Oh, also. I forgot to ask… Do you know exactly what a Unit is? Is it a credit?

Unit means a full year of the subject, just as if you were taking Chemistry in high school from August until May.
I’m guessing you need to complete Algebra B and Spanish B before you can get credit for a year’s work.
Then you need 3 more years of math- Geometry, Algebra II/Trig, Precalc and one more full year of Spanish II.
To complete your elective prerequisite you could take Calculus and another year of language-Spanish III.
If you take 3 years of foreign language(the same fl) in high school, some colleges will exempt you from having to take more foreign language depending on your major.
Remember what FSU lists above is the minimum for consideration for application to their school.
You will be competing for spots with students who have completed more than the minimum, with extensive extracurriculars, awards, sport activities, the whole package.

Good luck.

Oh okay. Thanks. You have been such a big help already!
