Skipping Physics for AP Bio?

I am planning on skipping honors physics for AP Bio. I would like to hear other people’s opinion on this. I would like to go into medicine, and tough bio and chem classes are in the way, so a high school bio class will be beneficial. This is junior year btw. Senior year, I will be taking ap chem

See this older thread http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/1728886-is-taking-physics-in-high-school-important-to-apply-to-pre-med-major-at-ivy-league-school-p1.html

Pre meds need to take physics in college. It will be harder if you have not had it in high school.

Highly selective colleges also like to see all three of biology, chemistry, and physics in high school.

WHy can’t you take all three?

Take HS physics. I believe that pre-meds must take 2 semesters of college level physics. Having zero background in the subject (when an instructor would likely assume all students have at least a basic HS background) would put you at a big disadvantage. In addition, a number of colleges look for a sequence of bio, chem, and physics to be completed in HS. I’d recommend that you talk to your guidance counselor and science teacher about alternatives that are do-able at your HS such as: doubling up on science one year, just taking bio or chem at the AP level, taking a science class over the summer etc.

Im out of space for my junior year schedule! I can and probably will just take the class senior year since it’s required for med school

As an FYI, very few med schools will accept AP science credits to meet med school prereqs. Regardless, focus on college admissions now, and worry about med school once you are in college.

No, I meant so I have the knowledge before the class

I agree…take Physics…more important that you will be exposed to physics than to take AP Bio. (or take both)

I recommend trying to wedge Physics into your schedule, you will need it for Ned School

At my school we don’t even have to take physics, just chemistry. So I am going to Ap environmental science next year because I despised chemistry. If you like math then you should take physics

@easyalesseffort: although few high schools require physics for graduation, selective 4-year college want to see one each of bio, chem, and physics at any level. APES does NOT replace Physics, even Physics regular.
