Hi guys. So I’m a freshman, and I’m currently in Spanish 3 Honors. So I’m planning on only taking 1 more year of spanish, and originally, it was going to be spanish 4 honors. However, my spanish teacher pulled me and a few others aside and said that he thinks we should take a test to skip Spanish 4 honors and go straight into AP Spanish Lang.
So I want to do it, but how hard would it be for a non-native speaker to skip into AP Spanish Lang? First of all, I would have to pass the test (btw if anyone knows any practice tests for this, please let me know). I can read and write really well, but my speaking skills aren’t great. I’ve started to listen to some spanish music to help, but I still am not great.
I dont think it will be that hard for you. I’m in Spanish 2 right now and we are doing AP Worksheets and writing essays to prepare us. We are practicing the essay portion of the test right now, its quite easy its only 4 paragraphs and you have to some of the 3 sources they give you on the test. The other part was writing a formal email in spanish and having a 2-3 minute conversation on the given topic.
At my school there isn’t honor courses for languages but after Spanish 3 you go straight to AP Spanish Lang.I think you will do fine as long as you put effort into it
Also, I also recommend watching shows and movies in your target language as well. Even some English-language TV shows have Spanish SAP and closed-captioning. Also look for some news sites in Spanish; they often have short clips available for viewing.
@skieurope I’ll do that! I found a spanish channel (I think 21) that has english subtitles, so that’s good
@onceuponamom I’m not going to be able to take it junior or senior year because of scheduling, but I have a few spanish friends that I currently talk in spanish with for fun. Plus, I live in South Florida, so it shouldn’t be too hard to find people to talk in Spanish with
