Skunks?!

When DH and I were at Earlham for New Student Orientation, we saw a skunk! It was at night, when we were heading to the parking lot by the science museum, where we had left our car. A group of people just ahead of us had turned around, saying there was a skunk up ahead. We all made a wide berth, and it was at night, which means I couldn't see it very well. But it clearly was a skunk, just kind of rooting around in the grass.

Later in the week, DS called us and said he had been walking back to his dorm sometime in the evening/night, and had seen a skunk walk across the sidewalk about eight feet in front of him. He said the skunk paused, looked at him like "Oh, hello!" and then waddled away.

I realize this might not be a big deal to many people, but as a city dweller, I was quite surprised!

DH is watching a nature show on skunks right now, which is what made me think of this. Based on what I see on the tv screen, the babies are very cute! But I have mixed feelings about skunks just wandering around the campus. Oh, well, it is kind of cool, as long as they don't spray (or bite!).

D mentioned the skunks too, which she never has in past years. We do have skunks in our neighborhood, so she’s no stranger to the smell and our neighbor’s dog regularly provokes them into spraying him. We once saw a mama and 4 babies in the back yard – sooo cute! But we enjoyed them from a distance. :)

I’ll be glad when I start hearing squirrel stories instead!

How about stories of [King Kong on campus](<a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube)?
