Just wondering what I should be expecting/doing in preparation for a Skype interview. I was told that it would be "audio and visual." I don't have a Skype account, nor do I necessarily have the needed equipment. Is it okay to have a headset on while doing this interview, if it is too difficult to transmit/hear sound otherwise, or is this not professional? Thank you!

Skype is a free download to the computer you will use for the interview. If you have a robust Internet connection, the computer has decent built-in speakers and mic and you’re set up in a quiet room, you shouldn’t need any headphones (or external mic).

May I suggest you identify the computer you will use, download Skype and test it with a friend who’s running Skype? Once you try it out a few times, you’ll figure out how best to set things up and whether you need any external hardware.

Good luck. It’s great we have things like Skype to facilitate interviews!

I had my Princeton interview via Skype. I had an app on my cellphone to use it; ran pretty smoothly. Really, it’s almost the same as a usual phone call.
