My SAT score could use a lot of improvement and doing it only on weekends won’t be enough to boost my score. But it’s manageable, I’m only doing one section a day.

If you are struggling to stay awake then you aren’t going to get much out of studying.

i just started the IB program this year and I consistently sleep at 11-12, sometimes even at 1am. Before IB, I have always slept at 10-10.30 D: This has really affected my performance in school because we get so much homework ):

@mathyone, I take a snack break and watch a little TV for 45 minutes before doing homework. Sometimes I even take a nap. So I’m not usually that sleepy.

4-6 hours this semester. Normally I sleep around 6 hours last semester. For some reason this semester has started off extremely hard(and I may have also been procrastinating). I normally just use eye drops or eat or drink coffee/tea to stay awake. I am in Symphony Orchestra and our new director require us to go to early morning rehearsals, too. I’ve also started drinking coffee in class to stay awake.

Not being able to sleep sucks, and it really affects our performance as students. I’m only taking 3 AP courses this semester, which may not seem like a lot, but it is to me, and that takes up most of my day. I’ve pulled all-nighters for about a week now averaging about ~3-4 hours of sleep. I wake up tired and get home from school tired. Along with homework, there’s studying (for those you need to…such as myself) and it’s hard to keep up with other co-curricular and extracurricular activities. For tonight, I plan to stay up until 3:30 am maybe, and that’s on good days. I still have to finish my AP phys C homework, start AP calc, read and take a test for AP govt, and study for a Latin test.

I’m taking 2 APs and I go to bed at around 10-11, because my mom yells at me saying i will die or something without enough sleep. I have a study though, so I only do homework from 7-9. I have a bunch of ECs (Chess, Scholastic Bowl, Math Team, Tennis, and XC), but I don’t have any social life.

If you aren’t getting enough sleep, try the strategy the kids at my school use: finish (or start 0_0) your assignment in school the day it is due. If you have a full lunch, a study, or a more relaxed class you can get a lot of work done. However, this can lead to procrastinating too much on bigger assignments and bad habits at home (like redditing or online games). I would much rather be that kid finishing work as the day goes on then the one who stays up till 3 and has their homework done. Both end up with their work done, but one gets more sleep.

Sleep at midnight, wake up at 7. It’s really not that hard.

@Repede, it would be easy if we COULD sleep at midnight. Some of us have a lot of activities along with homework that keeps us up.

Varsity sports and most rigorous schedule in my class. Work smart, not hard.

@Repede My classes start before 7

@SwaggyC, wow that must really suck. I’m so sorry. :C

I sleep 8-9 hrs a day and I feel deprived lol

Then go to sleep earlier.

Junior. Homework load is just ridiculous. 5-6 hours average.

Senior, 5-6 hours every night. Except on Saturday mornings, if I don’t have anything going on, I just sleep. Until like 2 in the afternoon haha.

Some of the people here are legit zombies! I am a senior, taking college classes so my schedule is a bit more lax. I typically sleep 9 hours a night.

Last year though, was pretty rough. I got about 7.5-8.

I really think the key is time management. I do LOTS of ECs and stuff, just as much as a lot of try-hards but I manage my time well so I can get a lot done during the daylight hours.

Usually between 5-7 hours. If i do my homework as soon as i get home I’ll maybe be able to have 8 hrs of sleep, but that means doing hw all day after school until bedtime. Taking AP during sophomore year was the worst idea ever.

Sleep is the most important thing to me. If I don’t finish a hw assignment, oh well, but if I don’t get sleep then my whole next day is ruined. I usually don’t get less than 7 hours of sleep and average on about 8. I wake up at 6:30-40 and leave at 7:10-15.

I’m a junior. I get home around 2:45-4 depending on what days I have ECs, stay for extra help, have driving instruction, have to run errands, etc.
I start my homework on average at 3:30 and am usually done around 11:30 (including breaks for dinner and going for quick runs). I get up at 5:40 and occasionally finish work before leaving for school.
I’ve found myself relying more on coffee due to AP classes and ECs.

One trick for staying alert during tedious study sessions is to stand up every few sections of review and do some basic, static stretches (butterfly, calf stretches, etc.). It gets the blood flowing and keeps you alert!
Also, I read somewhere that studying in your normal day clothes and shoes (as opposed to pajamas) supposedly can help you stay more alert and retain more information.

From a fellow sleep-deprived teen, best of luck!
