Does anybody else find it hypocritical how teachers tell you that you need to get 8 hours of sleep when that really isn't possible with the workloads we have as high achieving students?

It is literally impossible for me to get more than 7 hours; I sleep at 10:30 and wake up at 6:30. The school day is 7:30 to 2:30, and I have tennis till 5.

I really don't understand how some people get in the recommended 8 hours.

I second me.duh; with good time management skills I'd probably get 8 hours nightly. Since I prefer to squander my time on the Internet, however, I get closer to 6 or 7 hours, which isn't too bad.

the problem with me is that although i probably finish my work by 9, my body can't fall asleep until after 11, regardless of when i go to bed. this is consistent with the sleep patterns of most adolescents, whose minds are most active until after midnight.

this is in direct conflict wit hthe fact that i have to get up at 6:30 every morning. sigh.

Well back in high school I was used to only getting around five hours of sleep, but these days I'll go to bed at around two or three and wake up at 9 or 11 depending on what day it is.

i might have slight insomnia. i tried sleeping pills before but i didnt work. the only things that have ever worked are nyquil pills. funny, i only sleep well when im sick.

Not to burst your bubble... but 10:30 to 6:30 is 8 hours. :D

11:30 p.m. or 12:00 a.m. - Sleeping times
7:30 a.m. - Wake up for school
8:40 a.m. - 2:50 p.m. - School starts and ends
3-4 times a week after school I have to stay until 4:00 p.m. (for clubs and stuff) and on Thurs. I have to stay after school until 5 p.m. for school play rehearsals. And all my other EC's are on Sat-Sun and meeting at lunch time.

As you can see my schedule allows me to get homework done, get 7-8 hours of sleep a night and have a life. I have homework everyday and when the units get longer and harder I am up until 1-2 a.m. leaving me to receive limited hours of sleep.

I wish I got enough sleep. My schedule's still pending, but I know on Thursdays that I won't get home until 6:15 from mock trial practice, and then I have work. A lot of work.

The school system should change in middle and high school to accomodate adolescent sleep patterns, at least to a point. Teenagers should not have to wake up at 6:00. They just don't work as well under these conditions--it's been scientifically proven in many studies.
