I’m not jewish…but yeah. AEpi was the schit…I wish I was jewish just to join them

I don’t think you have to be jewish to be in AEPi-- i went to a few of their rush events-- joined another frat, but they have a few members who aren’t jewish.
It’s part of their mission and identity-- even though many of the guys aren’t even religious.

A couple of my good friends are in that frat-- they have good parties, and I sometimes study there too. None of them are like super-duper jews or anything.

Coolest bunch of nerds on campus.

I will definitely be hitting up the Rush scene! I am so glad they put me in the frat. It really gave the full CMU experience

Hahah. I know the current president, and he said they got yelled at by the main chapter because they were letting too many non-jews into the frat. It’s a cool fraternity, and even though it has the stigma of being “geeky,” I really like a lot of the aepi brothers glad you had a good time.

AEPi had some ridiculous number of baggers. My roommate (Jason for those of you who went to SBW) was leading them all around. I had a LOT of booth to do, so he ended up taking mine around for the majority of the evening.

I remember one of my friends (Catholic) said he was joining AEPi. All of us were like, “Uhh…dude, you know that’s the Jew frat, right?”

I visited as well on sunday-monday on the sleeping bag visit. I was put in Hamerschlag dorm on the hill. I have to say, the people at CMU are pretty nerdy and un-social. Pretty much all of them were really into videogames, and while I too appreciate videogames, I prefer socializing with others all around campus rather than simply playing video games. Anybody else get that nerdy vibe from CMU?

Anyways, I dunno about you all, but I actually did wear an orange shirt (albeit by luck, was the first t-shirt I saw out of the laundry), so I don’t know about you other people, but I came through on the CC identification dress :P.

^ Lol.

Did all you do was play video games? It could be:

1) You had some not so great hosts and thought that playing video games that you could play at home is a great way to entertain you. Nerdy indeed.

2) You really were just stuck with the unsocial type. Don’t lump everyone at CMU that way though. Skim these boards and you’ll see no denial at them being in numbers, but you’ll see confirmation as well as the “normal” being type also being around and mostly prevailing.

So sorry-- and most unusual. Your host sucked!

Even if he was a boring-in-your-room-gamer, he should have had the decency to show you around campus and introduce you to spots.

Did you at least attend any of the planned events, visit a department, check out club tabling?

My D and S had wonderful host-- they got to see labs, visit classes, check out various eateries. Both were into FIRST robotics in high school and I know when they mentioned it, their hosts put them in touch with people who could show them robotics things on campus. S plays soccer and even went to pick up game while on his visit.

Hope you still consider CMU-- we will look for you in your orange shirt in August!

^
Why Orange? I don’t own anything orange…

Even though I called for it, I didn’t follow the dress code lol.

I had a great time with my hosts. They were cool as hell and still brilliant. We went downtown to eat at like 10pm and didn’t get back until after 2am (albeit we painted the fence for an hour or so) but it was great.

They showed us all of the freshman dorms and were making a point to ask us if we had questions, explain internship opportunities, show us the robotics club, and found out our majors and introduced us to tons of people in our major so we could pick their brains. One dude in my major was awesome and even went and got his laptop to show me his engineering projects and explained them. So cool!

I went on a few overnights and none of them came close to how sweet CMU’s was.

So as far as the social scene, it’s there. You got screwed with your host, but trust me it is awesome

I paid my deposit and cant wait for August, high school sucks even more now after my visit!

High school has just sucked in general. Gotta focus and get some AP credit out of senior year. Because sadly, I don’t think I have any that will apply. Hopefully I get my Chem, Calc, US Gov (maybe), and Eng Lit (maybe) credit. Bunch of 4’s where I need 5’s. And I was never good at social studies.

@blizz

B/C the guy with the bad host he said he wore the orange shirt-- something that CCers were planning to do while at sleeping bag weekend (why I’m not sure) , but he did. So hope he comes back - and we’ll know by the orange shirt (it was a joke).

Wow, this sounds awesome. Does anyone know, if you do a “normal” overnight, will it suck compared to SBW? I’ve never done an overnight at any college visit and now considering extending my stay next week…

SBW was amazing! I didn’t stay in AEPi, but I did stay in DTD with 9 other baggers, so our group wasn’t small, either.

Well, having you all say that your experiences were better is reassuring. However, to have almost an entire dorm be like… anti-social was definitely discouraging.

Regardless, the two most chill guys I met were part of the Lambda Phi Epsilon (mainly Asian) fraternity. They were both Asian-American like me and were pretty social. At the very least they were far more social than the guys I met in the Hamerschlag dorm.

Anybody have a chance to stay overnight with them or meet up with them at the ice cream mingling event?

I’m visiting on the 18th and signed up to do an overnight stay but I may not want to anymore (would be more convenient for traveling arrangements). If I’m already planning to attend a bunch of events during the day like open houses for my school and major department, is it worth it to also stay overnight? Do you usually get paired with someone with the same major? If I’m interested in sororities would I be likely to get matched?

If I’m already planning to attend a bunch of events during the day like open houses for my school and major department, is it worth it to also stay overnight?

You spent the day getting to know the school. Now stay overnight to get to know the students.

Do you usually get paired with someone with the same major?

I don’t think they try and pair you with those that have similar majors. However, hosts tend to know many people and many departments, so odds are you’ll be introduced to at least one person who is majoring in your prospective field.

If I’m interested in sororities would I be likely to get matched?

Basically the same answer as above.

This is not true. They do try and match by major when possible. Sometimes if they run out of one particular major (like CS) they will try to place you with someone who is close to your major, like ECE.

^ Ooops I lied. o.o
