Hello. While this is not strictly about college, I have found this forum very useful for help in the college/transfer admissions process and was wondering if someone could steer me in the right direction regarding this issue.
As my username would suggest, I am a jazz guitarist majoring in jazz studies in college, I've been playing jazz for somewhere between two and three years and the guitar for about 5. I just began classical guitar studies (started at the beginning of this semester--so I'm on my tenth or eleventh week) and while I am not an extremely accomplished classical player (yet) I enjoy it and want to progress more this summer--when I will have some extra practice time. My biggest issues are posture and technique (particularly right hand technique) and I was wondering if someone here knows a good classical guitar teacher in New York City or one of the surrounding areas (I live in a suburb about 40 minutes outside of NYC). I am not necessarily looking for a top notch performer, but for a very good teacher who will help me develop my technique, tone and repertoire. Currently I'm learning the first set of Simple Etudes by Leo Brouwer (on V) though I have to slow down some of the faster ones. I am also working out of the aaron shearer method for technique.
If any one could give me a name or a website of a good and hopefully affordable (less then 80 dollars for an hour lesson is best) teacher in this area I would be extremely grateful.

Try the Juilliard “find a teacher” site:

Don’t know cost, but Dr Pedro da Silver who is on NYU faculty may be of interest. He has very wide experience and skills. Drop him an email.
Here’s his weblink: lessons

Thanks to both of you. I have looked through the julliard directory and seing so many teachers who studied with Sharon Ibsin is very cool, though i’m a bit suprised julliard hired someone so progressive (the reputation they have–at least in the jazz world–is incredible but extremely old-fashioned, and she has done a lot of cross-over and recorded with the likes of steve vai). I will definatly also check out Mr. Da Silva as well, as he seems like an incredibly interesting teacher who could teach me a lot.
