SLO experience?

My D was accepted to Penn State -University Park in the College of Engineering. Does anyone have experience or information regarding the Special Living Option dorms on campus? She was looking into the Pennypacker dorm at East. My understanding is that you are obligated to attend social and academic events. My questions include the following:
- What kinds of events were these, how often and for how long did they meet?
- Are there enforced quiet hours and from what time?
- Did you take the advantage of the in-house tutoring?
- Did you enjoy your experience and if you had to choose again
would you choose to live in a SLO?
- Are they difficult to get into?
- How was the social aspect of it and did you feel it made a difference
academically?
-The difference between the Pennypacker at East or the EASI at Polluck
(besides East being just for freshmen).
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I also have a problem deciding whether I want to apply for a SLO.

Alot of people are saying that East is the place to be if you want to be tied in with everyone for a good social network, which I believe I would want coming from OOS and living in a completely new giant environment.

I am also looking at FISE in Pennypacker. I see that the advtanges of it are that you can get engineering tutors pretty easily to help you with your work, but I don’t want to be socially handicapped by living in a pure engineering based house. Though some mom here had mentioned her son enjoyed FISE.

So, anyone with info?

I have a friend in EASI house in Pollock, and he likes it. The only thing that may concern you is that the floors are coed instead of single gender. There are separate bathrooms though. The rooms in Pollock are nicer than East, and Beaver Hall, where EASI house is located, is a closer to more stuff than Pennypacker. There’s also E-House in West, and that’s really nice. The rooms are better, you get nice common spaces, and McKee Hall is near a lot of the engineering buildings.

My son lived in E House (the engineering SLO in McKee) his first two years at PSU and I think he would do it again. Social events I remember him attending were cookie decorating (maybe for Valentine’s Day) and playing broomball hockey. One academic activity he helped organize was a resum

I want to do FISE freshman year. Then E-House for the last 3.
