Slot Interviews vs Starbucks Interviews?

Hey, guys, another Northwestern hopeful here worrying about admissions and interviews and all...

As I was browsing the forum about interviews, I noticed that some people had to sign up for a slot on a certain day (usually in a school) while others had a seemingly more informal one on one interviews in some Starbucks or coffee shop.

I live in NYC, so it seems that I only have the option of the slot interview. But does anyone (maybe an actual alumni interviewer) know if the approaches to these two different types of interviews are different? Is one better than the other?

Thanks for the help and good luck to all those NU applicants!

Alumni interviewer here – doesn’t really matter. Only difference might be that a block interview you might be mentally compared to all the other people I saw that day (maybe 3-5 others) so try to make sure you hit the points you want to make a little harder to be slightly more memorable. But again, its really no big deal either way.

Well I had my interview today, and I thought it was great! Definitely nervous and everything, but my interviewer was really chill and open, which really eased my nerves.

Just one thing: When I was writing down my name and address for the interviewer to send to the college I guess, I didn’t include “New York, NY [Zip Code]” at the approval of the interviewer. If I didn’t include my zip code, will there be trouble sending in the interviewer’s report?

Another NU alumni interviewer here… I don’t see how leaving off NY, NY would be a problem at all.

As far as the slot interviews/Starbucks interviews (funny that you asked because I’m conducting an interview at a Starbucks tomorrow!)… there is one day that we try to do all the interviews at a local school. I don’t know why the person I’m interviewing tomorrow was not available that day, but I was asked if I was available for the interview so I set it up at a Starbucks. Also did one at a diner in the fall. A friend of mine also does NU interviews, but in another part of the country. We actually talked about it recently and she said she has to set all of hers up individually and she decides on the meeting place. I guess not as many students apply from her area. The location does not matter!

Good luck to you! Hope you get the decision you want!
